POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Poet Introduction
I've been a journalist and (unpublished) novelist, but writing poetry is a relatively new experience . I'd like to make some friends and get advice and feedback.
The Dark Side of the Sun
The wither man is on the news
Blinks at me with blazing blues
Forecast calls for record highs
Sweat treachery and humid thighs
But no reason for me to sweat
Blood drops that I'd soon forget
Chimeras streaming in my mind
Scorched transformers left behind
I just rise into the sun's eclipse
Blisters bursting on my lips
I now see beyond the rays
The blackness at the end of days
In case you require further proof
Check those four horsemen on the roof
Then lend an ear to Old Gabe's horn
And await the beast that must be borne....

Spring-heeled Jack
I hear the step of Long Liz Stride
An angel of the street
She says she'll give me quite a ride
And make my night complete
But Whitechapel's where I seek my prey
And where Liz trades on her back
Now she'll comprehend that Hell won't pay
And call me Spring-heeled Jack
I send her heart to Scotland Yard
Together with a rhyme
"Godspeed" is printed on the card
"And better luck next time."

Love Me Deadly
Love me deadly
Love me strong
Take me in your arms
All your vices to fulfill
Just drag me along
Love me nightshade
Hang me high
I will serve you well
All your dark dreams will come true
I'm under your spell
Love me harshly
Make me bleed
Tie me to your heart
This injustice I endure
Just take me apart
Love me darkly
Make it last
I am here to stay
My heart's beating black and blue
But I'm yours anyway.

Slip Siding
Slip sliding away
What a way to start the day
She welcomes me inside
Going warmly into hide
I can't tell you how it feels
Just that it's this embrace that heals
She simply puts me in her place
Vanishing without a trace.

The Water Queen
She lowers herself into the tub
Displacing the water beautifully
She begins to dream, the warmth rising
There's the fade of the day
The release of everything that troubled her
The water reminding her that she's a woman
Perhaps a queen
Her man enters, in awe of her beauty
He can only kneel and administer his own form of love
The cleansing ritual now in his hands
She smiles and acknowledges her subject's adoration
And relaxes further,
At ease in her reign.

Local Muse
She's still with me
A whisper in my ear on a silent day
Her breath stirring my hair when it's still
I look up and see her face in the clouds
Her laughter navigating when it rains
She's this kind of muse
Her hand resting on mine as I write these lines
Her warmth waiting in bed when I'm through
She becomes whole when I join her
When we slip together
When she gets the final word
Which is
Yes.

Slouching Back
The beast slouches back from Bethlehem
Somewhat ticked at the cool reception
It's concept of rebirth shrugged off
The streets running with confusion
A population engaged in trivialities
Slaves to the airwaves and social media
An excess of drum beating and waste
The prevailing ignorance a tragic joke
The beast's gaze, once pitiless, glazes over
Deciding these insects are on their own
Perfectly capable of destroying themselves.

Les Fleurs de la Peur
I give my mistress roses
And they instantly turn black
She then strikes those lurid poses
And I have a heart attack
So I say adieu to Red
Offer a feeble wave
But she said I'd end up dead
And she'd do me in the grave
We once just got a room
But now much to my surprise
We're now sharing this tomb
And no one can hear my cries.

Fond Memories
Fond memories of her embraces
Not to mention lipstick traces
Located both high and low
I still like to watch them glow
And she always had the tightest grip
It still hasn't let me slip
The toughest love I'd ever found
I just wish she'd stuck around.

Her Flames
I've just been set on fire
And I choose to fan the flames
To be both consumed and energized
A playful and creative muse resides here
Her own lines beautiful beyond belief
As well as erotically charged
Devastating as I visualize her potential
Just the influence I need
And, despite the distance,
She's standing right in front of me.

Close Enough
She is not perfection
But she comes fairly close
Near enough to me
Cool proximity
Late in the afternoon
Sharing a little wine
Then each other
Joined in friendship
And as lovers
Whispering and amused
Secrets to be kept
And, yes, possibly cherished.
