POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Poet Introduction
I've been a journalist and (unpublished) novelist, but writing poetry is a relatively new experience . I'd like to make some friends and get advice and feedback.
The Raggedy Man
The threadbare people huddle
Their breath puffs of fog
Their skin icing over
Once in awhile a body found in the park
Stumbled upon by a pampered child
A pup who cannot yet comprehend
Assimilate freezing cruelty and neglect
His parents lead him away
Telling him the raggedy man is only sleeping.

Once in awhile a body found in the park
Stumbled upon by a pampered child
A pup who cannot yet comprehend
Assimilate freezing cruelty and neglect
His parents lead him away
Telling him the raggedy man is only sleeping.

Lenore
Lenore at my door
So long away
Now back from night's shore
Has this to say:
"I know that you grieve
Given to weep
But I had to leave
Forever sleep
Find a new love
Enjoy while you can
I'll shine above
A star for my man."
I watch her depart
Drift off in the night
I waken my heart
'Neath Lenore's light.

Queen Mistress
Playing out a fragile hand
Cards dropped for a final stand
Notices the heartbreak stain
Then spots her through the window pane
Finding he can't help but stare
Combing sparks out of her hair
Someone murmurs "She's the one.
Queen mistress when your day is done."

Amor E Morte
Berenice begins to bloom
Bathing in moonlight
Daintily steps from the tomb
Deep into the night
She passes sweetly through my door
Climbs into my bed
Far more compliant than before
You just gotta love the dead.

Strictly Speaking
She clocks in strictly speaking
And looks like stormy weather
The new clients are freaking
Looks like she's naked under leather
But serpentine her ways
Requires sacrifice
Her storm arrives and stays
And lightning will strike twice.

The Cup
Sometimes I dream of sinking
Deep beneath the sea
Morning finds me thinking
Of thus setting myself free
I gaze into the mirror
And watch my face succumb to age
I try to brush away my fear
And scrape off the growth of rage
I go out to face the day
And cringe beneath the sun
I've got to find some way
To combat this urge to run
Then I make my appearance
Try to find some way to share
But will they grant me clearance
If my words won't lead them anywhere?
It turns out that I'm wrong
To think that I'm adrift...

Morning Muse
A final offer from my muse
To guide me to some grace
Maybe lend her flame to light my fuse
And help me to save face
She says "Hun just let me light your fire
So we can shed some light
One breath and I'll take you higher
And demonstrate an angel's flight."
I just simply can't say no
As she provides me with that lift
She says "Hun we're going with your flow
Just consider this my gift."

Slow Dance
She speaks of fear
But the fear is shared
So diminishes it hideous strength
Two lovers gaze in contemplation
On the darkness of their lives
They speak of demons
Monsters of their past
An abusive spouse
Brutal friends
Families torn and frayed
All these shadows still waited
Invading their dreams
But the two hold each other
Whispering consolations
Lighting a fire within themselves
Then allowing that flame to pass
Their pain retreats further, defeated
And the celebration begins
A slow dance under midnight's sky.

Necropolis
Bathed in moonlight
Kissed by mist
A city of night
With stones that list
Granite and graves
I call this peace
My lover waves
My troubles cease
Cold hand in mine
We make our way
'Neath stars that shine
And dread the day.

Supplicant
"Do I look like I care?" she glares
"Maybe not but I try" I reply, trying not to cry
Her cat 'o' nine tongues unfurls, just waiting for an excuse
"And are you not a worm?"
I squirm, loving every syllable
"I can't tell you how much - "
"NO! JUST SHUT IT!
Your words are a feeble joke at best!
A desecration at worst!
You are the Jester of Dogs!
And you are PATHETIC!"
I can't help but agree
I remain her supplicant
And don't ever set me free.

Luck of the Draw
Gunslingers seldom like to wait
And that high noon train is running late
Their trigger fingers start to itch
While Ike Clanton comments "Death's a bitch"
But that engine pulls in belching steam
Brakes engage with a rusty scream
Then Wyatt Earp steps from a car
Pinning on the lawman's star
Earp says "Dudes, let have some fun"
But Clanton's clumsy with his gun
Dismayed to find his barrel stuck
Inspired to mutter "What the fuck?"
Earp says "Boys, give it a rest
We'll put our talents to the test...

Selkie
She travels on moonlight waves
Adrift from midnight's shore
Mine is the drowning heart she saves
When she whispers through my door
I feel the sea breeze on her breath
The gentle currents of her kiss
Her fingers submerge my fear of death
And teach me to dream of bliss.

Her fingers submerge my fear of death
And teach me to dream of bliss.
