Litany of a Life, Boring
In lieu of words,
Which will be left unread
Inside the small café atop Snowdon
Where coffee tastes of midnight blue,
The view is breath of my very existence
In no particular unholy order

Preying priests of solace to bury:
2,683 hangovers (hangovers are Hell’s psychiatrists)
64 front door keys
2 babies lost in womb-space (or trapped in nightmares) somewhere
1 ballerina pirouetting away

Why Do Recovering Alcoholics Love Diet Coke?
Mariah brings me carrots, and pasta, and money for thirty diet cokes, if I want.
She hugs me in her orange puffer coat, because she knows I have been scream crying
and bargaining with the universe, again. She’s been doing the same.
She grips me tightly and I cling to her, and we cast a spell that makes the five pm winter darkness
feel less like a life sentence.
Boys said they loved us and left. And that is the familiar knife we keep turning inside ourselves.
We give every twist a new name, but the hole looks the same.
I tell her that I hope they can...

the real you won't be framed on a wall
I let a lifetime of lies
crash over me
and I would rather deny
the truth than see you
as you really are
It's embarrassing now
that I held you up so high
a pedestal you shouldn't
have been gifted with
in my childhood memories
that I haven't outgrown
Because I wanted to be like
the best parts of you
and pretend that everything else
wasn't toxic
But you're so toxic
and I'm left searching
for an antidote
only to come up empty
and self medicate instead

The moment fleeting
quick is the flash from the past
