An old worn tan canvas bag
where it came from
I cant remember,
that bag contained my life
from twelve to eighteen

Pair of jeans, couple shirts
socks, and my cds,
from kansas to carolina
kentucky, washington
montana, virginia
and plenty of others
in passing, at least

home was wherever
i had a friend or
relative with a couch
a floor, garage
anyplace i could crash

When I was 14 I lived
almost all of october
in an old suburban
my friends dad had
behind his barn

till i was discovered
then back to dads
till I cut out again
then carolina again

ii travel the same roads
probably why nothing
ever really seems to
change

Oh, she really does! I saw that Geisha photo she posted... I can SEE why you think she is so lovely, Jessica. She has a good heart too, and writes intense poetry, I must say!

Yes, Caliban, it really does! As a lesbian who has an eye for what is beautiful in a woman... I approve. And I TOTALLY did not mean that in a creepy way either! I merely... do not always know the right words to say to express certain things. Jessica tells me I remind her of Ziva from NCIS combined with Starfire from Teen Titans by way of Tinkerbell. Whatever that means.

I wonder what is a... Tinkerbell?

OMG! I can't believe she actually said that. Wow. Just... wow.

Journey to Success

Can success really be measured
by the time spent on a journey
and how we get there at any cost?
Does it count at all
no matter how noble or wicked
our intentions maybe?

How do you measure success?
Some may measure it by fame;
while others gauge it by fortune.
In this world with various standards,
neither a yardstick nor a barometer
can really measure fame and fortune.

Plaques of recognition and awards
hang on the wall of a simple abode,
and the joyous laughter inside
filled their hearts with contentment.
They maybe deprived, but their spirits are free.

Look at the mansion on the nearby hill
lavishly adorned with glittering lights,
yet it looks gloomy and haunted.
Deafening silence filled the air,
as if lost souls-- there reside.
They maybe wealthy, but prisoners within.

We can take the road less traveled,
and expect tranquility at journey’s end.
We may choose to plunge into the abyss
and expect nothing more--nothing less.
We may have fame, fortune and accolades,
yet emptiness still exists within our restless souls.

Success itself is a journey;
getting there is all that counts.
There maybe be roadblocks along the way,
and curve balls in each and every turn;
no matter which road you take
it doesn’t matter after all.
For success to some-- is just a state of mind.

The Drifter

http://render.globalgallery.com/images/268296--600.jpg
      Photo source: globalgallery.com

'Twas a cool dawn when the drifter sets off
to sail an unchartered ocean all by himself;
he could see where he came from,
but not where he is going...

All his life he's been wandering
from places he has been before,
and to places he has never been.
This time his journey has no particular destination
for in his mind, he is on a quest for happiness;
as far as I know, there's no route to happiness,
for happiness is a voyage and not a destination.

Day and night he sailed through the seven seas -
with spirits high defying the turbulence;
his fervent desire to reach his goal
keep him stay the course against all odds.

Then one moonless night with a stroke of bad luck,
the violent tempest of all hit his sailboat's mast;
it broke and hit his head leaving him unconscious.
For many days he drifted, tossed by the angry waves
to a distant island where he ended up: a cast-away.

His spirit was willing but the flesh was weak
from days of hunger and thirst, until hope against hope
his eyes about to shut, saw a flash of light from the sky.
Turned out to be the search and rescue crew
who responded to his SOS radio message
before his sailboat was wrecked and sunk into the abyss.

After months of healing and full recovery,
his wandering spirit took over again.
This time he is certain where to go;
he would see the village sage to seek his wisdom,
and ask for help in his conquest for happiness.

Be one with nature and yourself while you meditate;
free your mind from worries and set your spirit free.
Find peace in chaos and be happy with what you have;
emptiness fills the void, silence your loneliness.
Remember evils always overreach and are never content...
Go and find another way, seek the truth and the life--
real life: obstacles along the way and your struggles;
once you see them all, happiness will soon follow.

After hearing all of these from the sage the drifter cried,
for he soon realized that there isn't any journey
that will lead him to find happiness--
Happiness itself is the journey...
the journey ends where your heart lies.
What a fool I have been for knowing nothing;
I have been happy all my life, I just didn't know it!
Cry not, for your search was not in vain.

Equipped with his new found knowledge,
the drifter went home ecstatic.
Day and night he spent countless hours of meditation
trying to achieve an aura of perfection;
then one day he was surprised to see himself,
sitting motionless in a deep trance.
Why have I not seen you before?
I'm always there with you, come high tide or low tide;
wherever you go, I follow...
Because no matter what you do,
it's me-- your conscience that bears the burden of it all
and your shadow, even when darkness claims your soul.

With a blink of an eye he was gone
wandering far and wide, from one planet to another;
he was having so much fun, for he left all his worries behind.
He defied the law of physics as well as Einstein's theory
that nothing or no one can beat the speed of light;
but with a blink of his eyes, he can go beyond the light...

                 < summer love in spanish >

               on the beach
               in mexico
               the heat of the sun is too much
               and i lie in the shade
               of an old soft drink stand

               it's not a popular beach
               so close to the power plant
               but close
               to my dad's office

               i'm here
               visiting him
               my terrible spanish
               getting a little better
               walking the streets
               just looking
               reading the signs
               buying pan dulce
               it's so cheap
               and every bun of this sweet bread
               is beautiful

               so every morning i go and buy a bag of it
               and eat it the rest of the day
               carrying it through the streets
               looking at the signs
               trying to read them with my dictionary
               writing letters to my mom
               never mentioning you

Destination Rave

Sit back and enjoy the ride
are you ready? Going up
high above their clouded minds
here our joy is multiplied
this is where I catch my breath
can’t stop the music, can’t stop the vibe
music spinning the world faster
slowing maybe for only a moment
before speeding up again.

Life is like a turntable
all the world's a stage
stars pierce through the sky
life has taken me away
and as the DJ spins his magic spell
everything bad get’s left in dust.

The beat quickens again
we all join on the dance floor
glow sticks shine like the pulse of life
bass booms as our hearts beat as one
thump, thump, thump
can you feel it in the dance floor
you are not alone anymore.

We dance as one under the shining stars
no one can take this away
this is a celebration
of life, of love
and best of all this is to Remember
remember who we are as we dance together as brothers, as equals.

Here it comes the bass is moving me again
and as the music spins us around
all our worries just melt away
leaving only us
in the vast darkness that has brought each of us to life.
it flows through me
can you feel it?
just close your eyes
open your mind.

I could never be unhappy
as long as I can dance in the desert
under the beautiful night sky
far away from judging eyes
they can't stop the music no matter what they say
we're all together anyway.

I dance until my legs give out
and sing until my voice has left with the fading stars
we dance in the morning
watching the beautiful sunrise absorb what is left of the darkness
and yet here we are
the night is gone.

The heartbeat slows
then stops
the time has come
all good things must come to an end.
We say our goodbyes
share our last hugs
what we gained can't be put into words
and we will always remember.

We go back to our lives
where the world is dead and cold
forcing us to keep ourselves locked up inside
living life from day to day
it comes in one way
then leaves the other
finding nothing at all worth to say
waiting for a year to pass
and for that magical night to begin
so we can dance until the sun rises again.
