Psilocybin Strictly Platonic

 At a mates thirtieth
stoned but what's new
socially lubricated, now this is new
Would you like some mushrooms
well being a sociable occasion and all

Tenderly caring for dying fire
like it was my own child
Fucking fire armatures anyway

Hey mate what do you do?
Well mate, as it so happens here read this
Have you got a beat for it
like how about this
It was here that he lost me
filed under the strange conversation files

Nah mate I had pictured it to a slow sax
because who does not like a bit of slow sax?

We know what your game is hanging with those lesbians

Well actually that is where you are wrong
for it is strictly platonic
Two creative souls, shooting the breeze

I sat in your chair today.
Usually, I avoid it.
It still seems wrong
when anyone but you
occupies a space
only your big presence could fill.

Breathed in deep
from these inhereted lungs

and let you soak in.

(ˇˇ)

There is a photo,
You with Madison on your shoulders.
The epitome of grandpa

It hangs joyously
on the side of the extra fridge
in the hallway utility room

Like entering church,
it was fingers dipped of holy water
 signing the cross.

Every single coming and going
passing it by
was a ritual
of whispered 'hello'
then, 'until next time.'

Until today,
3523 days later
it's gone without explanation
and so was my composure
the entire drive home.

(ˇˇˇ)

He would have been the peacekeeper
The one saying
that our alikeness isn't a detriment
and why "I should be the bigger person"
as her way
will always be unchanged
in it's abrasiveness.

Him, asking—needing me
to be properly patient
uncomplicated
and more importantly
like myself

Because he always knew
alike doesn't mean
identical.

Love in the time of the Internet

''I love you so much''
He said to the Beauty on the screen.
The FB picture of a woman
He fell for after a small research
And a few clicks.
She had 1K friends
But she also declared her love for him.
Kindred souls they were.
Truly.
But their love would remain
On the screen
Separated as they were
By an ocean
A different culture
And severely different values.

Osmosis

This mantle does not fit me well,
for it is fashioned from your pain, not mine.
Sitting atop my shoulders uncomfortably,
it makes its presence known in quiet moments.
My heart aches, uselessly—
longing to fix that which I do not fully comprehend.
There is no need to explain:
the silences between your words
have settled upon me,
surrounded me and occupied my waking hours.
If only my compassion would reach you likewise;
a protective cloak to surround you,
unbidden and silent.

Zeitgeist

Someone stole my child while I was sleeping,
And left a fine young lady in her place.
Her appearance is familiar;
The fairness of her skin and hair,
The huge blue eyes and lightness of frame all quite expected;
The products of her genes.

She’s steeped in words and music,
And will carry these abilities through her life;
The products of her upbringing.
The surprise is in the woman she’s become.
All by herself, she’s a spirit of the age
With her finger on society’s pulse.

An artist, an aesthetician,
A social justice warrior,
A defender of human rights,
A lover of animals and
A voice for the voiceless,
The shy little girl has become
Politically bold,
Unapologetically outspoken,
A loyal friend, who will not tolerate
The mistreatment of others.

We spend nine months
Expecting a baby.
Time and experience will show us
Who that child will become,
And that is the Unexpected.
