Calls From The Beyond
I hear the voices calling,
Somewhere from the darkness in the beyond,
Like a choir and orchestra,
Playing a symphony,
With a beautiful ethereal song.
But they tell me its selfishness,
When one walks on the edge in this path,
Contemplation is but a mere reflection,
When the desire for death comes and goes.
There is so much beauty in it,
The culmination of life,
Leaving unanswered questions,
Like triumph and tragedy,
A mystery for those left behind.
Doesn’t anyone else hear the shadows?
A languid guilt trailing off into the night,
Finding a resting place amid facades
Of smiles and laughter
Like an ominous cloud lingering.
Everything has an ending,
Some sooner than others,
Some linger in the wings of broken promises,
and crushed dreams,
Like traces of ghosts from the past.
A poet is sometimes haunted by otherworldly pains,
A tortured soul in silence concealed,
Driven by some unknown force,
Some call it a mental illness,
Maybe creativity and madness,
When the darkness calls from the beyond.

A big thank you to all who paid tribute to this month's features. As in previous months, these are very difficult to judge, and sometimes come down to a simple typo or grammatical error breaking a tie. This month was no different.
Just a note that we've had some snide inferences regarding 'favoritism' in our comps. Let me assure you that could not be further from the truth. Our Classic Champions, as we like to refer to them, work HARD, and it shows in their writing. They study and they deliver without simply replacing words or borderline plagiarism. They double-check spelling, grammar, form, guidelines, and put forth their heart into these comps. We recognize that effort and award accordingly.
We seek the essence of the classic author in the entrant's own style. Again, not just replacing words of the classic author, but capturing that essence and writing in their own unique signature. We judge on a scale of 1-5 on spelling, grammar, punctuation, form, and content. The largest question we ask ourselves is this: Do we feel like we are reading that classic poet?
That being said, congratulations to the following winners:
PoetsRevenge, congratulations for taking home the Gold. Your entry ( including your non entry ) were amazing representations of Sexton. We truly felt we were reading her when we read yours.
Heaven_sent_Kathy, congratulations for taking home the Silver. Yours was also a reflection of Sexton's noted style. Your tercets were an excellent touch to mirror the inspirational poem - yet, in your own unique signature style regarding content.
nomoth, congratulations for taking home the Bronze. Yours was a very unique representation of the inspirational poem. We really sensed Sexton's essence within in.
Lastly, a few were disqualified for not following the guidelines of the competition. This is very disheartening because you come so far, only to drop the ball over not adhering to the guidelines despite reminders.
Congratulations to everyone for quality entries; thank you again for honoring the classics. We hope to see you in this month's featuring Rupi Kaur and T.S. Eliot.

I wish I knew more ways to say this - but I'm so very honored when I am among other poets who have placed for the Classic Corner challenges, and this being a tribute to Anne Sexton has me speechless. So while I'm able, I congratulate the ever growing PoetsRevenge as the winner, and nomoth as podium company - what great poetic spirits about me.
And my humble thanks to our hosts Ahavati and JohnnyBlaze; always shining examples when running the CC challenges. See you in the September comps, all...
blessed and blessings,
Kathy
