Poem of the Month - August 2024
Poetry Contest Description
Three weeks to nominate your favorite poems!
You have THREE weeks to nominate no more than THREE of your favorite poems from another DUP poet!
Please note the following guidelines when making nominations:
The voting for this competition is anonymous; therefore, spoken word nominations will be disqualified.
1. Self-nominations are not accepted. The great majority of the competitions here are about spotlighting one's own work on a particular topic or theme. This is a chance to nominate that poem that you wish you had written but some other great talent here beat you to it.
2. You may nominate only THREE poems from THREE different DU members.
3. No DUPLICATE NOMINATIONS. If you nominate a poem that has already been nominated you will be asked to replace the nomination.
4. Any genre except erotica or pornography. This is a Facebook feature and we must adhere to their guidelines.
5. Any member who is banned or disables their account PRIOR to winning will be automatically disqualified.
6. One win per member per calendar year, beginning with the month they win.
7. Please notify your nominee they have been nominated. Please make sure your nominee has not won within the last 12 months.

If Love is what it’s meant to be
My love, thou distant friend:
When all of us is at its end
And nothing grows but words of rhyme
And every sun reverses time
When every moon is clothed in gold
As newer things are counted old
Then, my love, perhaps we’ll see
If love is what it’s meant to be
If love is what it’s meant to be
Then, my love, perhaps we’ll see
As newer things are counted old;
When every moon is clothed in gold
And every sun reverses time
And nothing grows but words of rhyme;
When all of us is at its end
O my love, thou distant friend
.
.
Won’t we meet again?
When all of us is at its end
And nothing grows but words of rhyme
And every sun reverses time
When every moon is clothed in gold
As newer things are counted old
Then, my love, perhaps we’ll see
If love is what it’s meant to be
If love is what it’s meant to be
Then, my love, perhaps we’ll see
As newer things are counted old;
When every moon is clothed in gold
And every sun reverses time
And nothing grows but words of rhyme;
When all of us is at its end
O my love, thou distant friend
.
.
Won’t we meet again?

The Sun
As we end the day and reveal the stars,
that one by one appear
i know another night has come,
revealing my fears
For in the black and endless stars, for which I run
i pray for the falling of the night, the rising of the sun
For in the night I see your face, your smile so like the sun
and in my heart I feel your warmth, then yet I have to run
Because the things to show my love, have all been done,
so I wonder through the night, waiting for the sun
And so I think I'll go out, wherever it may be
in my trouble wandering, find the way for me
to live without you by my side, constantly
to finally put my mind at ease, and to be free
Possibly
that one by one appear
i know another night has come,
revealing my fears
For in the black and endless stars, for which I run
i pray for the falling of the night, the rising of the sun
For in the night I see your face, your smile so like the sun
and in my heart I feel your warmth, then yet I have to run
Because the things to show my love, have all been done,
so I wonder through the night, waiting for the sun
And so I think I'll go out, wherever it may be
in my trouble wandering, find the way for me
to live without you by my side, constantly
to finally put my mind at ease, and to be free
Possibly

The Book
While mist
Not quite rain
smeared the windshield
And my head in a book
That described a red headed girl
but a child really
Who survived a wilderness
Wild with the screams of Natives
as I avoided the rearview mirror
Whose eyes who knew me too well
In spaces I had yet to introduce myself
Where they danced on ground
Hallowed out by a lineage without
my blue eyes and peculiar stare
A yellow line and highway disappeared behind me
And the distance from it now
A created space outlined by heartache
out the smeared front window
I looked up and glanced at the horizon
It had come faster than I anticipated
My story would have to end for the evening
there was a noticeable loss of light
Not quite rain
smeared the windshield
And my head in a book
That described a red headed girl
but a child really
Who survived a wilderness
Wild with the screams of Natives
as I avoided the rearview mirror
Whose eyes who knew me too well
In spaces I had yet to introduce myself
Where they danced on ground
Hallowed out by a lineage without
my blue eyes and peculiar stare
A yellow line and highway disappeared behind me
And the distance from it now
A created space outlined by heartache
out the smeared front window
I looked up and glanced at the horizon
It had come faster than I anticipated
My story would have to end for the evening
there was a noticeable loss of light

Moment Of Doubt
Wrestling with pessimistic ways
Rebuilding life from the ground up
Beneath the surface conflict sways
Drinking secrets from an empty cup
Tempted by some shallow existence
Walking down a blood painted street
Shadows crowd us with persistence
Into the cafe where monsters meet
Timid patterns lead to catastrophe
Flowers plucked from a lonely vine
Death lends itself to an apostrophe
While the mystics get high on wine
Politicians infest the local sewers
Ready to accept their next handout
Using slight of hand maneuvers
To produce this moment of doubt
Rebuilding life from the ground up
Beneath the surface conflict sways
Drinking secrets from an empty cup
Tempted by some shallow existence
Walking down a blood painted street
Shadows crowd us with persistence
Into the cafe where monsters meet
Timid patterns lead to catastrophe
Flowers plucked from a lonely vine
Death lends itself to an apostrophe
While the mystics get high on wine
Politicians infest the local sewers
Ready to accept their next handout
Using slight of hand maneuvers
To produce this moment of doubt
