amniotic fluid

that was
a
fleeting joy
when I was
in
my
mother's womb.

there is
no memory
of that past joy,
yet it brings
a sparkle to
the eyes

Where
there will be
marks of
the trouble
caused by me
and
no trouble
will have
happened to me

I would
surely have
attained
immense
happiness
in the aura
of that
warm womb water...

Bundles of Joy in the Bag

*

So few of us enjoy the little hidden joys of life --
like being not bagged baby parts of Middle-Eastern strife.

Laughter

The other day I made my son read a tricky tongue twister of a poem
And he laughed like he hadn’t laughed in such a long time
He struggled and spat and tried and spat some more all over the phone
It was a verse full of elaborate alliteration and constant rhyme

In the mornings my wife and I have interesting conversations
I wake her up with quips and gags saying things that are kind of…improper
I even make myself the butt of the joke and walk into them
As she laughs I’m left I wondering why I’m not such a panty dropper

Everyday I send out funny things I see in reels and share them with family
If I find it hilarious, I know they’ll enjoy it too but that’s just my style
My sons, my daughters, my sisters, my mother, I try to make them laugh
Even if they’re having a bad day, it might make them smile for a while

But it was that tongue twister of a poem that made me travel back in time
I paused for a second as my grown son laughed like when he was a baby boy
I remembered their faces and heard the echoes of their little voices
And my heart felt happy because those are the things that bring me joy

My Biggest Joy

You could
say that my
biggest
joy would be that the
whole family would
still be able to
love each
other no
matter.

The Joy They Bring

Hearing the voices of my children
the hugs and smiles they give
their willingness to be there in my older age
being together during the holidays
these things bring me more joy than I can say
with the turning of every page.

unexplored paths

there's something about backroads
backwoods
hidden trails
they call to the nomad in me
inspiring wanderlust
always chasing the latest mystery
you can only see so much on the main
you have to step off
meander down overgrown lanes
ducking through tangles
those low hanging branches
to crest the next rise
find a surprise
stumble upon one of nature's best kept secrets
she's full of them
blowing your mind & widening eyes
sometimes it's just a detour
not leading anywhere
but if I don't go
how will I know
at least I explored
it leads to a need
for more
yeah
I'm an off the map kinda gal
just me & my feet
hunting the unknown

Smiling at the waves

Yet again, we meet the day and night
Time runs through me
as everything stops
Nature stops
Wilderness stops
to await the dawn
Here
Now

I open the tent and you’re smiling inside
You ask me if I wanna go swim
I’ve never wanted anything else, I say
