Sad day all around.

Not so much a wind of change, more a light breeze

(!)

there'll be new stamps
money too
and those of that persuasion
will hang king Charles
where the queen used to be

free Derry, will still be free

whatever that means
in this century

(!)

seems crystal clear
god spares no one
despite the song
and proclamations

a lesson learned
for those of us
who bend, bow
and make a fuss

(!)

I will not deny a slight sadness
at the news of her passing
she, of all the kings and queens
was a queen,

The Firm

Presided over nature tamed
and kept within its ken.
A stone’s throw from Hyde Park,
a long approach, and barriers assumed
as much as planted in the ground.

And what was it she came to figurehead?
A ratfish nest of racial purity,
sexual perversion, egotistical
ravings of men in tailcoats,
and gussied blandishments of wives.

Succession for inspection

They came to crowd beside the gates
half-mast the flag, it spelled the news
gripped the spirit with a gust
in disbelief. Her son would fill her shoes

The carpet with its corner up
where scandal hides
one son that holds a stench non can mask
the cracks that hold but still divide

Stern faced the monarchy, must be preserved
and by gods hand, underpin the loss
the pomp of braid, its march incessant stirs
a pyramid of golden dross

Divorced by wealth, that birth has dealt
with common touch they stand aloof
but in that mint, an uncut diamond grew
and thro' the flames, proved she was fireproof

 The final gift she gave
an heir to bear the heavy crown
a river flows beside the Thames
subjects.  believe that loyalty cannot be put down

in that silent homage, shouts a want
tsunami of regard other nations undertook
with jealousy, the theatre of pomp
British royals garbed in black, just like a rook

inwardly screamed and beat their chests
but that continuum will never rest
dark jokers' card will play its part
the anthem solemn for us Britton's we are blessed

War and time have honed that chain
and Charles the third his passage was ordained
the house of Windsor ramparts, bastions so strong
oak like Nelson's fleet, ever sailing on

sovereignty...

where's
the democracy
in a monarchy
how could
another human
be better by birth?
while one strives
just for survival

yet another
freeloader sits
on the throne

what's a freedom
in a monarchy
why can't
a monarch
chose love
and be respected?

maybe
sovereignty
comes with
a price

All Hail the Conquering Heroes

white Rani
pale face
peering out
into the glare of a tropical sun

pretty face
framed by brown hair
looking at ill people
in a hospital named after her

they couldn't pronounce her name
Elizabeth
so she was Lizabet
many brown girls
carry her name

some hated her people
for reasons best known to them
how dare they
white man, go home
leave us alone

her people left one day
hip hip hurrah
and all that rot
leaving puddles of disarray

pinky turned up to drink tea
from cracked bamboo joints
curtsies learnt
songs hummed
London Bridge....
flipped pages of history

longing faces
turned towards
the 'home' country
of castles and carriages
and everything within
wistful hearts long for queenly
hats shoes and gowns

Idiots ...its simmering hot here

thank you, ma'am
it was the birth of a new era
chaotic but necessary
and here we be

Farewell Queen
Long Live the King!
May you rule well
with all that she had.

Old Traditions in the Modern Era

I don’t know much about royalty or monarchy
I’ve never been a loyal subject to a king or a queen
Everything I’ve read about in the history books
Seemed so foreign to me (if you know what I mean)

I do understand about responsibility and duty
Of stoicism and endurance through difficult times
Now that this second Elizabethan age comes to an end
Many pays their respects waiting in endless lines

I have to say I do admire a strong resilient matriarch
The troubles and tribulations that mostly went unseen
Perhaps the strength and longevity attributed to this
Were the well wishes of “long live the queen”

But as I said, I don’t know much about monarchy
Customs seem rooted deep in the fabric in society
Some beliefs are embedded at the core of a people
And the queen always showed respect and propriety

I send my condolences to a family, to a nation
For a monarch in which the likes I’ve never seen
For old traditions kept in this new modern era
For in the memory of the living she’ll always be queen

Charles…
Well, I think many of us are still sad about the Diana
Then again, we all move forward and can’t be stuck
He has some big shoes to fill and a legacy to build
But at his age, all I can say is...good luck Chuck
