To leave a legacy

I as a preacher, stand just as a singular
and on the dais raised,
to beseech not command
for each to change his ways.

Divest of garments, naked stood
with just the voice of truth
do not chough and fidget so,
attention span, of a goldfish in a bowl

To listen is the greatest gift.
A blank prescription left to fill.
Worries gap, a hole and hope will not suffice,
as kindness be the cure, for many ill's.

Burgeoning stress, a pumice stone. dulling each keen edge,
the mould, the verdigris upon the cheese,
furry tendrils, the vilest creeps.
All humanity has a pull a tug, but who am I to judge?

But the undertow should always be
a common sense of love.
Everyday thespian, standing on the stage trapdoor,
extends the velvet glove

Bare boards the essence of my core,
Enemies and friends the now and evermore.
Spreading Chinese whispers, joy and piece,
the world we have, is just on lease

Gather a band, and grasp the lost ideals
the track is warped, wax to melt on Icarus's heels
ozone thinning on our shield
come show me, just a little ZEAL

September's Voice

 I am the voice of a meadow;
listen to me hum.
See what flies about me;
every bloom has come.
Yet I toil nor gather;
only give away
what the air can muster
as against its pull I sway.

Seeds and spores to scatter
like so many words;
thrown about in tatters,
in waiting still unheard.
Whispers only chattered
by some chirping birds
waving to their latter;
a streaming sun of yore.

And only can they
rake away what I,
in turn can let decay
as sleeping, I'll regenerate
to give again in some
new day --

To where is gone so
shall return in all it's
splendor, roots unburned;
safely kept in deepest earth
below the conquests
of the birds.

I shall come again and bloom
in every color, leaf and plume.

          ......

Starless Skies

Too much rain
too much sun
times are broken
trains don't run

Boarded stores
line empty streets
food we hoarded
almost gone

Fueled by hatred
filled with greed
the darkest souls
crush those in need

Now the end times
have begun
carve the message
on to stone
deep enough
for those that come

If only we
had lived as one
if only we
had lived as one

Thank you each for your messages. Because it's such a somber day of remembrance here in America, I will delay awarding the winners until Monday out of respect. Again, thank you each for your entries.

This was a tough mother to judge. I kid you not.

I've read an re-read every entry at least three times to see which resonated the deepest. Johnny, yours came out first because Poetry. I do believe it has the power to influence and save; Razzer, you had me at Trees; and, Abra, you had me at Oneness.

Congratulations and thank you for entering.
