Caught

There is a deer here
.....veers from the head lamps
And shoots his sweltering skin
He slows
And feels alive
His chest heaves
The onslaught of branches
A rocking chair

he is swaddled by the darkness

.....has shed the light

LAYered

Seeping through the cracks of my
Broken dreams...
Echoes of despair resound as
I hear the words ring;
Shame, failure, disgrace.

Hope betrayed me to misery,
The light...
let go of me to the deep.
Now pain is my medicine.

Spinning

In dark fires
of viral truths,
my spirit dances—

a dervish
with this right hand
held up and open
to receive God’s grace,

this left hand faces down
towards the earth,
to give grace and light
to a world reborn.

Cold Grief

Winter creeps
single panes
tragic gusts
no shelter remains
sorrow crawls
within veins;
darkness walks
among the living
leaving pale
unforgiving
memories hazy
barren to reliving;
untold stories
past lost
grasping tightly
at what cost?
existent grief
in winter’s frost
