Poetry Contest

New Member of the Month Feature!

Welcome to "New Member of the Month" to be featured in the DUP 'New Member of the Month Hall of Fame', sponsored by Tallen.

You have 3 weeks to nominate  Your favorite poems from a NEW DUP poet - someone who has been a member for no more than six months.

To locate New Members simply click on 'Poems' > *Latest Poems > Sort Poems > New Members!  Thanks to Umm for the image and helping us old people out!

Please note the following when making nominations:

1. Self nominations are not accepted. The great majority of the competitions here are about spotlighting one's own work on a particular topic or theme.  This is a chance to nominate that poem that you wish you had written but some other great talent here beat you to it.

2. Until this comp is established, there is no limit to nominations; however, you can't nominate more than one poem per individual new member.  *****

3. No DUPLICATES. If someone nominates the same poem the entry will be deleted. If you like it that much wait and vote for it!

4. Any genre except erotica or pornography. This is a Facebook feature and we must adhere to their guidelines.

5. Any member who is banned or disables their account PRIOR to the win will be automatically disqualified.

6. One win per member per calendar year ( 12 months ).

7. All nominators should notify their nominees of nominations.

8.  PLEASE DON’T NOMINATE RECENT WINNERS

Any nominated member who wishes to opt out of the competition may do so by messaging me. I will contact the person who nominated you and request an alternate nomination.

Nomination Duration is 3 weeks followed by a week of site voting!

Unclipped Wings

Somewhere in the chaos that I was raised in,
I managed to get it into my young, innocent, and naive mind,
that I didn’t have to be defined by the dysfunction.

Sometimes I think it’s sheer luck, other days,
I cling to the comfort that it’s divine intervention.
A part of a larger plan, I am not meant to understand.

It’s a perplexing place to be,
when you decide you no longer want to be held shackled to the life that was presented to you,
the one you had no other choice than to believe was destined for you.
To no longer wish to be held back by the demons of someone else’s past

But I didn’t have to pay for their mistakes
and my opportunity for growth,
didn’t have to be stunted by their flaws and deficiencies.
And I didn’t have to be content remaining in the cages they were comfortable living in.

Although their burden was never mine,
the weight of their world laid heavy on my shoulders.
And living in their world, according to their rules, left me tarnished and full of scars.

In order to break free,
I had to let go of the security and familiarity
that came with following the devil I knew.

It’s lonely,
it’s terrifying,
and it’s incredibly vulnerable
to forge a path entirely of your own making.
For life wasn’t designed to be that way.

How do you trust the outside world to be any safer
than the place you were supposed to call “home”?
And how can you know where to go,
without someone there to show you the way?

But looking back on it now, I can see...
I was surrounded by birds who had allowed life to clip their wings.
And If I had believed the lies they told me,
or bought into the false ideals they tried to sell me,
Well...
…then, I never would have learned to fly...
...and what a magical world I would have missed out on.

Machine Love

I hear you going, vroom vroom....
Vroom.
slam your hood on me, in me
Your cabin, Our cabin. Small pine tree.
Will I get lucky, lemme roll your dice
The scent of black ice got me like
Lets play dirty. Call me junkyard.
We go forward then reverse. Your hole is hard.
Two balls, two wheels, one HEART, one night
My dick is sooty, your lights are bright
Let's go home to the garage, shut the door
youre mine. Crumbs on the floor

The detailing bill is very high.

God I'm Sorry, And I Beg You

God, I'm sorry, and I sincerely beg you
I tried to be great, but seems like I failed you
I'm one in spirit, but its looks like you made two
I cheat myself most times, it's so hard being faithful.

You gave me a mission, and for that I'm grateful
But I lost focus, and my fruit got wasteful
I kept company with vultures, who brought nothing to the table
But If you give me a second chance, I promise I won't forsake you

I'm tryna use this gift, and I need your blessings
I'm done wasting time in circles, and second guessing
It's hard without your direction, it's so depressing
I give you my cross, Oh Lord, I'm done stressing

Today and forever, I need your presence
Without you as the captain, my sail is without an essence
I done with past hurts, I just wanna shine in the present
And write poems for your glory, hearing the sounds will be so pleasant

My soul is yours to keep, I will never sell out
Even in troubled times, you have been my bailout
I don't got no rule book, but the bible lines as my handout
In darkness, be my guide, my sight and my lookout

Go To The Place

Go to the place -
the place were it all sink in;
the place where you found yourself and felt everything.
Go to that place -
Feel the freedom.
Free your spirit from the shackles and
Breakdown the misshapen pieces of torture; for they no longer serve you.

Take some time to listen -
the distance will whisper against your cheek.
Nurture what you found before -
make it your place, permanently.
There's a reason why you found something there and no one has to know why.. It's important. Your time is valuable.
There's nothing to be afraid of because what you are feeling is a true Awakening.
Love it.
Prove it to yourself.
Take your eyes off the watch,
put away The Unforgiven time.
Lock it away
and bury it because it's time to move on now. It's okay... Go to that place.
I promise you, it was your destiny to find it.
