Poetry Contest

Nominate an Amazing Poem to Represent DU across social media!

It's time for our "Poem of the Month" to be featured in the DUP 'Poem of the Month Hall of Fame' and on the official facebook page for December, 2019!
Note: I am guest hosting this month only - an announcement will be made soon regarding the permanent host, who will assume responsibility in January.

You have two weeks to nominate no more than two of your favorite poems from another DUP poet!

Please note the following when making nominations:

NOTE: The Spoken Word of the Month comp is here:
https://deepundergroundpoetry.com/forum/competitions/read/11143/

Because the vote for this com is anonymous, and spoken word pieces cannot be anonymous due to avatars and voices, we would prefer you nominate those pieces in the appropriate comp above so that voting remains fair.

NOTE: New Member ( six ( 6 ) months of less ) of the Month comp is here: https://deepundergroundpoetry.com/forum/competitions/read/11141/

1. Self nominations are not accepted. The great majority of the competitions here are about spotlighting one's own work on a particular topic or theme.  This is a chance to nominate that poem that you wish you had written but some other great talent here beat you to it.

2. You may nominate only TWO poems from two different DU members.

3. No DUPLICATES. If someone nominates the same poem the entry will be deleted. If you like it that much wait and vote for it!

4. Any genre except erotica or pornography. This is a Facebook feature and we must adhere to their guidelines.

5. Any member who is banned or disables their account PRIOR to the win will be automatically disqualified.

6. One win per member within a 12 month period.

7. You must personally notify the member that they have been nominated.

Nomination Duration is two weeks followed by a week of site voting!

Current Poem of the Month Hall of Famers ( please do NOT nominate anyone who has won within the last 12 months ):

A Little Closer To The Edge (Crater Of Stars)

Father.
  I enter the word
      whitening in moonlight.

A glimmer,
you are still electric
in wordless theory
    where you evoked me
and I collapsed into you.

Crater of reception
falling out of Night's cricket songs;
    shredded body of love.

Tempest,
 Father whom I fell into,
where you held a cave for me
 deeper than blackest vastness
   of furthest sky.

Every star is yours,
oh Mother,
where I grew, expanding, extracting
within his grasp.

    Teach me how to speak
       this way,
    this limitless way.

In this crater of stars,
   I evolved from ruin,
Oh Father,
Oh Mother,
          yours.

Poetry by Touch

It’s gradually giving me the news in stages,
In phases that gently come and go at first sight.
As if this way it hopes like others going blind,
I’ll recognize respect it’s showing me in time.

When it comes to my having senses up till now,
I’ve had advantages for all these many years.
I should feel lucky and of course sometimes I do;
The irony: going deaf sounds better to me.

I mean no pun intended in what I’ve just said,
For all of us, here and gone, it’s a luxury.
It’s not by birthright giving me a choice to make,
By faith, I’m a believer, in the hands of God.

There still is time to do the things I love to do.
It is the air in trees & sky, the breeze & hush;
A cherish’d walk & talks by moonlit rendezvous,
And poetry to write, to read aloud to him.

When I thank him for the difficult things in life,
Suddenly they are no longer as difficult.

revelations

i said i loved you but i lied
you did not know that’s why i cried
by modest words disqualified
my iceberg base i tried to hide
my lyric lines were filled with vain profusions
i dared not bare my heart’s true revelations

i tried to kiss you but your pride
would not my forceful whims abide
too soon for strange lips to collide
or hearts so fragile to confide
and when i told you of my predilection
you said too soon for such blunt revelations

my genesis of hope resides
a thorn on eden’s mountainside
how soon might i be justified
by faith that cannot be denied
you said one day despite my taut confusion
you would to me bring sweeter revelations

i said i loved you but i lied
love serves not where pale words preside
but dwells—if truth be amplified—
in paradise where angels bide
from genesis through all life’s generations
love’s exodus seeks heaven’s revelations

who do i think i am?

think? i know:

i am dust and starbrites
collective consciousness of nanoseconds
a cumulative mass of memories
responses-past of physical
and emotional
stimuli

i am
white-water and the sunlit stream
waves and rain and colder condensations

i am prism
mirror
pupilled iris and lake's surface
—way-station of oxygen
human-manufacturer of other, older gases

i am the electric spark of life
the pump and slew of bodily parts
their flex and calcification
the untold power of a mind
that lives beyond parameters of flesh

i am the hand held out
the shoulder
the soft heart and the wise
bender not breaker
adapter-survivor
honed where once blunt
tempered by trials

stripped naked
—the learner of lessons—
i clothe myself in light and shade
of my own choosing,
in humility, honesty & understanding
aware of my own faults

i am
celebrant of humanity
judge of transgressions
the mouthpiece and the scales
in balance
in justice
in honour and in truth
for it matters
to me
who. i. am

-A Home-

A home to live. A home of love.
A welcomed refuge, this velvet glove.
And a home enveloped with family to care.
For a shoulder to cry when times are unfair.

A home of warmth by a hearth's heartlight.
For sharing in both good and when life may smite.
A home of peace and to close a door.
To shun a troubled world for an hour, or more.

To those where a home is but a house of pain,
a wish of comfort in your times of rain.
But a home can part your hardship grays.
One ray of joy will show the way.

A home gives life, though shines much more.
This home of my family...This home I adore.

Eudemonia

While good fortune may be transient
and our pleasures often contingent
contentment is a serene condition

When we seek purposeful direction
and know meaningful connection
our sense of belonging amplifies

Appreciating each moment as a gift
we experience spiritual lift
and can delight in the divine

With an altruistic attitude
finding grace in gratitude
we are afforded authentic joy

Through our compassion and charity
by practicing kindness and sincerity
profound happiness is manifested

Accessible to me and you
I believe this to be true
if we hold these principles in high esteem

A Poem can be so...

Utterly beautiful...
That’s truly what you are
With eyes that spy
 a twinkle, like a star

Bright, a sweet smile,
Ink’s  kiss, oh so divine
The mind invokes a sensual
guile...

Breath takin’ Poetry,  beautiful you
I’m so caught up, I’m thru...
Tryin’ to contain composure
fightin’ to incite searin’ exposure...

Although,
for all this emotional plight
just can’t help to recite
What the eyes see in a soul
even more proven so...

Poetry, you’re so
utterly precious n’ beautiful...

Tonight

There's a green blue halo around the half moon
We know what that means
We will be with it soon

There's a great big awesome promise to keep
We have heard it before
It is time to run deep

There's a small moment inside our light orbs
We feel it for sure
And what it absorbs

There's a low growling howl in the mid night
It has been foreseen
Our wings near the flight

The River

I have dreamed as you have dreamed
Of the black river wounded by silence.
There is death in the tears I shed
At the banks eclipsed by lotus.
There is sadness in the lillies
Housing oblivions of dreams so fair.
A silent sunrise breeds no rays
Upon the melancholy of the waves.
And stones buried in the high grasses
Heave perfumes of forgotten days.
Like polished glass, the waters flow
With fell shadows like unto gore
Running below a surface
Garbed in the leaves that fall;
Cloaked in the mists that gather
From the cold of sapphire skies
In autumn’s kiss decayed.
