girl in the rain

So engrossed...
in her book she became...
that she sat...on the bench...
'neath the light...in the rain.

All night she read...
umbrella forgotten...
from beginning to end...
she read, soaked and be-sodden.

The book? That is real...
but not so the story...
for she read of adventure...
of glory and gloom...

of wizards and warriors...
ogres and halflings...
of Dragons'-hoard treasure...
and a Mountain called "Doom"...

Your poem is lovely, Grace, but the point of the competition is to write a poem about the image I've provided.

The Memory of Rain

( a Quatern )

Each time there comes the memory of rain,
That lives forever only in her mind.
It takes her far beyond the present pain,
A love to come just once some never find.

As was a kind she knew those years ago,
Each time there comes the memory of rain.
She hears him read his poetry, and so,
To keep her company from summer’s bane.

It was, of all the seasons in the chain,
In showers of the autumn, love’s embrace.
Each time there comes the memory of rain,
The lovers, once again, stand face to face.

To walk the haunts of places where they were
Of stains & leaves to long wash down a drain.
That hid away the passion when it stirs,
Each time there comes the memory of rain.

Till The Words Disappear

She ran away but still claimed one thing.
A thing that kept her understood.
It was that book.
A book of correlation.
Temporary satisfaction.
With no home to return to she had to endure the rain.
Mother Nature had no condition that could stop her from reading.
Rain continuously spilled on the pages causing ink to aimlessly run.
She promised herself she would read until the words disappeared.

Yasmine

in her mind she
dances through
stories pages

unwritten

words

unspoken

amber autums
whispering trees

mystic ley lines
maple leaves

tangerine

sunrises

silver linings

tiding the ebbs
& flows of life

she’s prose
unread a tale
untold one day

she’ll find her home

Wind Witch

She doesn't need an umbrella
to trace the Wind Witches' route
  between flooded crevices of page

They were born of a deluge
  their desert emerald quartz
  sprouting striped red and purple;

  succulent birth of disturbed soil
  whose prickly plumage created
  sirens in barren wastelands

Mercury rises, his molten heat
fries floral axils to the bone
  leaving skeletal thistles bleached

A zephyr snaps immigrant spines
rolls brittle bones as carved runes
  emptying seed from dry wombs--

Their destiny doomed to burn
  by man and wilderness both

She, too, was born of a torrent;
  in the torrential she reads
by faith the sun will come

Offer her seed to its flame
who shall gift it unto a deluge
     that the cyclic legacy remain

She will wither just the same
    having fulfilled her destiny
     tumbling wildly into history;

Doomed always to move
    through man and wilderness both
