Constellations On Her Skin
Cold smile, cold lungs
Black ice lives in his dark eyes
Arctic winds biting
The sky, dark and black
Littered with snowflakes that look
Like constellations
Eyes the color of
Cheap champagne and blue crystals
Lips stained to azure
Fingertips raw and
Frostbitten, spreading slowly
Shivering, dying

SUN DOGS
Even the sun is cold
She is frozen in the sky
Her warm dogs cuddle
The above Haiku was inspired by a walk I had with a friend who was from Florida. I was on a clear below zero day. I pointed out to her, that it’s so cold the Sun is snuggling with her sun dogs. She was beyond surprised at the phenomena that we all are too familiar with in Minnesota. After having my fun, I explained the science to her.
