Poetry Contest Description
Enter the perfect poem with its perfect picture, or a perfect picture with its perfect poem
It is said that a picture is worth a thousand words... for this competition, I am looking for the perfect pairing of picture and poem...
it can be a poem written from a picture's inspiration
or
it can be a picture found on the internet or from your own files that mirrors the verse's message or feel:
the controls:
two weeks
no more than two entries
your own writing only
new or old writes
if you use a known artist's work, please give photo credit
judging standards:
best poetry
paired with its
best art double
AS THIS QUESTION KEEPS COMING UP -
How do I get a picture to post on my entry?
(Jade Pandora showed me this method using photobucket.com because it gives a direct url link to the photo)
1) upload picture to photobucket (you can either browse from the command in the website or drag n drop)
2) click the thumbnail photo to open in the photobucket edit screen
3) click the edit icon
4) click the resize icon
5) if either axis is larger than 400 - set the larger axis to 400
6) click save (steps 4, 5, 6 can take some time - photobucket is old and ornery and has lots of ads)
7) when back at the home edit screen - there will be 4 sharing choices on the right - click the one called "direct" this will put the url address in the clipboard
8) in the edit mode for your entry on DU wherever you want the photo to appear in the poem - type this command sequence img.../img with the commands in brackets "[ ]" with no spaces between the command and the url address - it should look like this
" img]http://i1036.photobucket.com/albums/a450/geoff_collins2/2017-15-3--06-18-57_zps60d88qur.jpeg[/img " - I deliberately left off the opening and closing bracket as DU kept thinking I was writing a bad link - the last designation should either be .jpg or .png.
and with that you can add a photo to any competition.
if you need assistance with entering a photo in the competition - pm me...
I will have the mods add the explicit content warning for those who would work in the erotic -
please no rape, extreme violence, or hate poems.
I can't wait to see your offerings.

(a Hepcat61 and brokentitanium collaboration)
How longing has kept me to this
Having seen you, angel in pink smoke
And now in my arms, pressing
I feel you in every inch against me
I felt your eyes but didn’t dare hope
penetrating to the shaded desires
Beneath my carefully-crafted indifference
Disarming, your warm hand took mine
We are as raw and awkward
So new in this thing
But as you move, I move
Our rhythm moving through
The rhythm blurs my logic
Scents of breath mints, soap, and skin
Tingle insistent to my animal brain
And my core becomes molten
Arms now circling my neck
I can feel your breath hot
Your breasts resting, pushing
I wonder if you feel my want
I want your firm hands pressing
I hesitate, crowd-wary, but…
Your obvious hunger awakens mine
With the tang of anticipation
Music stops my heart too soon
As DJ spinning out another song
And you away my rosy light
Next partner in the dance
Please, partner in the next dance
Secret synchronicity
Glancing back, I beckon you follow
Where I thought I wouldn’t go

No Harm Done
Follow me
I’ll bring you to my pusher
with a pssssst down an alley way
he doesn’t call to me
I walk brazenly into his store
where I also happen to purchase
a fuel fix for my car
My mouth waters
greeted with panoply of possibilities
to sate my vice
do I crave chips or cheese puffs
perhaps a candy bar or two or three
life wouldn’t be in balance
without a package of cookies
oh and I can’t forget my protein
beef jerky presented in all varieties
mmmmm I’m feeling better already
Now what to wash it down with
in this I am so sensible
I always select soda pop
that is sugar-free or nearly so
these magic beverages
nullify any of the harmful effects
of my other snack choices
I can be so damn smart sometimes
Location, location, location
where to consume my sweet ‘n’ salty hoard
I’ll start small in the car on the way home
that takes 2 minutes
sneak the rest past familiar security
to the safety and acceptance of my bedroom
fire up the laptop
watch my favorite shows online
or perhaps write some poetry
while slipping into a junk-food orgasm
my sumptuous habit won't kill me
at least not tonight

The Lonely Naiad
was it his love
that sprinkled the water
with fatal aphrodisiac
for her to leave her fins clipped
allowed to sink to deepest
water
was it his promise
that held her heart
within a fleshed body
magical wishes unfulfilled
to swim as fishes
deep in the green pool
was it his betrayal
that killed her devotion
that made her pine
for underwater kingdom
carefree within the depths
no hurtful words cutting her
she was bound to form
as bound to a promise
not naiad not human
trapped within aging flesh
yet her spirit within eternal
she longed for release
near the waterfall
she pondered on
the sacrifices for carnal love
a price to pay for a brief sojourn
in the arms of a man
she thought her own.

When
When time was young and fish were wise
a little boy would guard the boats
that his people used for gathering food
while their gods watched above from skies
that laid closer to the water & earth,
for this was where the wind came to rest
and the sea caressed the edge of the world,
and blessed those who trusted in the rhythm
of life until the cycle of death would
come and set them free, to watch over
a little boy who guarded the boats
when time was young and fish were wise.
Image: my poem was inspired from this photo by my friend photographer Bernie Medina.

MAGIC
Each day my illness' brings me pain,
On ev'ry nerve it seems to rain.
The coping of my riddled brain
Has learned to help me not complain.
I don't say 'woe is me' to self.
I turn my nose up at the wealth
That others want more than their health,
To leave their kindness on a shelf.
But me, I'm writing poetry,
Embracing thrills' discovery.
I dream to be a fantasy
From out of shell, yes!, to be free.
I think myself as light as air,
A gentle sprite that's hardly there
With sprigs of honeycomb to wear,
And flower blossoms in my hair.
From forest top is where I see
Winged things above the canopy,
To join in flight I wish to be
And laugh among the birds & trees.
For this is where the mischief sway
Is spread with mirth in which I play,
A riot's life of ev'ry day
My barefoot jig among the fray.
The forest creatures dance and race
With wonderment upon each face.
'Tis I that has them feel the grace
My magic touching every trace.
This is my happiness profound
As ev'ry chorus' cheerful sound,
All rising up and would surround
My hidden place, my kingdom found.
I only hope that someday soon,
Across the face of earth a boon
Will see for all to be in tune,
To love not hate from magic's swoon.

Your Green Eyes
Beauty within the depths of the soul.
Looking into your green eyes, I go
From feeling lost to being whole
Once again. Your eyes throw
Me through the fire to make sure
I am still surviving. They blow
Me over with intensity. They cure
All hatred and most self-doubt.
They are something that is so pure.
They can try to end the drought
Just with one look. Darling, they
Have the power to grow and sprout
Everything that is lush. They say
Everything that words do not.
They make me want to pray
For greener grass during the hot
Summer days. When you close them
You can picture getting caught
Within the wilderness and the thrum
Of the wind. Somehow you forget
About feeling completely numb.

Frozen
Winter’s snow, shivering chill
A season’s icy, frozen spill
Unforgiving and bitter cold
Soul unheated, arms enfold
Inhumane, insistent frost
Amid a blizzard, calm is lost
Arctic, frigid, freezing mix
With iced emotions, I cannot fix
Inspired by A picture is worth competition
