#3: "Rain is grace; rain is the sky descending to the earth; without rain, there would be no life." -John Updike

Liquid Blessings

salt on arms, licked softly
a taste of life
a nudge to a heart that's alive
moisture on upper lips

mud dried and cracked
as skin dead and peeled
by harsh sun-rays
un-shielded by kind clouds

prayers from parched lips
plucked heart strings
of the gods
and clouds cried

face towards the blessing
blooms, flowers, faunas
and mine
a hope of life

until the next cycle.

Thank you, Wally, for your entry on how not even Mother Nature can please them all - all humans!

Rain always puts me to sleep

In the middle of night before,
I awoke to the sound of rain
In what seemed like a sated roar
Of their deep voices, of their stain.

'Twas a dream in my half-aware,
I questioned its validity
Then dozed off like it wasn't there,
This weather-beaten mystery.

Then yesterday passed like my thoughts
Adrift, clouds hid daylight away.
I watched what the weather had wrought,
Then fell back to sleep where I lay.

The afternoon walked in on me
And claimed "It's been raining, y'know."
I vaguely looked over to see,
And murmured "I want you to go."

The day turned away as it sighed,
Went gray, fading into the wall.
I knew it had made up a lie,
And slept hoping raindrops will fall.

We're down to the wire, all (now that the final hour/minutes originally posted for closing have now been reinstated (Thank you, Ma'am!), and I thank everyone who has contributed their wonderful entries to the thread!  I'll be near making sure any who post an entry at the last minute will be embraced and held up to the light of sun that's forecast to be plentiful as we where I live hear from forecasters that another rain front will be making itself known in several more days.  So keep on expressing, those of you who want to make it in before closing of the "Storm"!       --Jade

Thunder @ 3am

So I am floating somewhere high or maybe even in between. My body lingering in, in and out of the ordinary everything. Then time stops......as thunder starts, forgets, ends, once again only to begin. And memory reminds me of an repented emotion. Rewind, oh I remember....
And it goes right thru me - an echo imprinted as an instant arythmia, heartache, heartbeat, hell.
Maybe heart hits head and I remember...maybe head hurts heart. And I wonder, do you remember, that our love was like thunder?
And with each rolling super sonic straight to my heart sound. Pain finds peace as rain keeps it real. A moment later these memories are baptized. Once again I have forgotten, perhaps as I keep forgetting, facets of these feelings. Wondering if I am hiding high inside my head, only distracted by thoughts that arouse my body instead. Thunder threatens time, time transports thoughts instead and rain remains reality as reside alone inside my bed.

       No Shelter

       Raven clouds gather
       they lay in wait
       Light through soul windows
       to suffocate

       Composed mostly
       of shame and fears
       When rain descends
       it falls as tears

       Tempestuous self-loathing
       sins refuse to expiate
       Whirling tornado of hopelessness
       a god can only ameliorate

       Warm Wind of compassion
       with roiling tumult collide
       Forcing the storm to abate
Smiling friends bid join us outside
       surrender ego to fate

Afternoon Victories

It may be raining outside, droplets forming, dripping down,
But they can't compete with the sweet scent of victory.
The wetness on my window pane can't keep up today,
Especially with my lover, burying his head inside,
Nuzzling, licking, touching, enticing me in the warmth of my room;
To the rhythm of the rain.

Sensuality heightens as I soak up the vibe...

The rain falls harder as does my lover.
With the anticipation of what is coming,
My legs open wider.
I can feel his wet tongue on my bud,
Lapping up the moisture.

The gentle groans of pleasure lessen,
As the height of ecstasy's slowly reached.
I lay there, quivering a moment,
And I think...
'Let these victories keep on coming!'
In every sense of the word.

It is not the time that makes a friend
Although we have so much
It is not the compliments in the end
It is our pain that makes us tough
It is the truth and consequence
That does keep us real
Things we cannot quench
Make us more able to feel
We do not know what we deserve
But know others need more
we pull from our reserve
For those that we adore
We believe we have no worth
And at what such a cost
We think no value here on earth
so much have we lost
Yet so much there is to gain
For us and those we hold
If we fight to remain
And let go of what is old
Together against the cold hard rain
We shall fight with perfect form
Always and ever to begin again
We can rage against the storm

What a wonderful competition for those of us who live in California... We had the perfect backdrop for these poems.
