Like I Was Never Touched
There are things I don’t say.
Things I press down so deep,
they never had a voice—
only suffering,
only pain.
My body was never mine, not really.
Hands took it before I even knew how to feel.
Before I could understand the perversion,
before I understood the way a soul can fracture
and still keep moving.
I have been taken so many times,
I stopped believing there was anything left to keep.
I have been seen, but never known.
Touched, but never held.
Wanted so...

I miss you more than you could ever know.
How much time has flown by - so much, so little.
But her memory is kept in me. I was afraid to admit...
I guess I still am, that she will never come back.
That I won't see her smile, that I won't feel her hugs.
How much she sacrificed just to bring me into this world.
She never gave up on me despite her own health.
And once I knew, would things have been different?
If she had listened to the doctors, and everyone else.
When I was a child it was so hard to take care of her.
Especially through the relapses and affects of treatment.

It feels safe here
A gentle escape from fame
My disguise working well
Even the guy at the Deli on the corner
Didn't pay me no mind
I asked for hazelnut instead of regular
It smells great but taste is often lacking
The story of my life wraps around coffee

The sound of her voice begins to fade
As her face of bright happy features dulls into a sepia blur
