Glide
The swollen river is still
giving me this thrill
slicing through the dawn
to part my solitude
As my kayak now glides
it still hides
ever so silent
among the brown cattails
While I witness the day
make its bright way
the sun rising
spilling its gentle ink
These multicolors swirl
as the vibrancies twirl
on the blank canvas
of another new morn
Again leaving me here
shedding a silent tear
to christening the morning ...
giving me this thrill
slicing through the dawn
to part my solitude
As my kayak now glides
it still hides
ever so silent
among the brown cattails
While I witness the day
make its bright way
the sun rising
spilling its gentle ink
These multicolors swirl
as the vibrancies twirl
on the blank canvas
of another new morn
Again leaving me here
shedding a silent tear
to christening the morning ...

Sea Foam
This snowy white froth
feels its bliss
makes its hiss
spreading out wide
in a gesture of hope
with an infinite slope

Elementals
Always so fundamental
every single elemental
in the way they exist
in the way they resist
the dark forces of the day
Defying all in their own way
forged back in ancient times
when alchemy was wedded to rhymes
when poets still knew their true worth
among fire, water, wind and earth
every single elemental
in the way they exist
in the way they resist
the dark forces of the day
Defying all in their own way
forged back in ancient times
when alchemy was wedded to rhymes
when poets still knew their true worth

Adrift
I love to be at sea
forever adrift
escaping the rift
between myself and me
Riding gentle waves
with each rise then fall
savoring them all
how each still saves
With so much to say
to the listening tide
with its glistening pride
about the treasure of each day
Still searching this heart
for a new place to begin
forever free of sin
forever blissful from the start
forever adrift
escaping the rift
between myself and me
Riding gentle waves
with each rise then fall
savoring them all
how each still saves
With so much to say
to the listening tide
with its glistening pride
about the treasure of each day
Still searching this heart
for a new place to begin
forever free of sin
forever blissful from the start

The Shapes of Water
Water blesses us all
with its soft christening
always listening
to our secret sighs
About all of the many lies
we tell others
tell ourselves
filling up life and its shelves
All the while
tumbling tides smile
having heard it all
before… awash in all our tears
While down through the years
a harsh winter snow
continues to blow
hope is once again frozen
Until the snowmelt
is finally felt
when soft summer rain
makes us believe again
with its soft christening
always listening
to our secret sighs
About all of the many lies
we tell others
tell ourselves
filling up life and its shelves
All the while
tumbling tides smile
having heard it all
before… awash in all our tears
While down through the years
a harsh winter snow
continues to blow
hope is once again frozen
Until the snowmelt
is finally felt
when soft summer rain
makes us believe again

drowning out the sound

Kayak
It is how I live my life
gliding atop the water
smooth as glass
allowing me to pass
While I slowly reach
let the bay teach
all of its placid lessons
all of its deep secrets
As I dip my paddle
into the blackness
carve my way
throughout the day
Savoring the rhythm
this physicality of rhyme
allowing me the time
to again renew
Slicing the water
truly Nature's daughter
ever meant
to remain this close
gliding atop the water
smooth as glass
allowing me to pass
While I slowly reach
let the bay teach
all of its placid lessons
all of its deep secrets
As I dip my paddle
into the blackness
carve my way
throughout the day
Savoring the rhythm

Mountain Lake
It always deeply reflects
upon itself...
seeing through the mist
with a deft poetic twist
Knowing how truth floats
along with the notes
of every song ever sung
echoing off the jagged cliffs
Mysteries left in glyphs
scattered around the world
a mystery left unfurled
for only poets to solve
While the days revolve
around the moment
around the instant
we realize to look to the skies
For all the old stories told
rain down into waters cold
with each dive we take
...
upon itself...

Winter Brook
It always makes me take a look
this cold icy winter brook
echoing its old sound
across the snow muffled ground
Soothing in rhythm and rhyme
taking me to another time
when water was the way
when poetry truly had its say
So, I follow the clear flow
going where it wants to go
always ever downstream
ever deeper within dream
But to the very same place
where I can finally face
the lessons it will teach
make its wisdom within reach
Until it is time for me to leave
knowing no one can deceive...

echoing its old sound
across the snow muffled ground
Soothing in rhythm and rhyme
taking me to another time

Water Bearer
Why drink the water from my hand
contagious as you think I am” ~ Collective Soul
Under a true sign of water
I remain Nature’s daughter
drowning in the desert drought
left shrouded in this doubt
Beneath an unrelenting sun
that has only just begun
to share the sordid tale
of each and every travail
Forever tainted with such sin
long before I dared begin
contagious as you think I am” ~ Collective Soul

Serene
The cold winter stream
does flow like a chilly dream
its rocks covered with snow
dappled in a white paint
Whispering forever faint
its secret verse
deep yet terse
echoing across the ice
While it trickles crisp and clean
a lulling poetry so serene
does flow like a chilly dream
its rocks covered with snow
dappled in a white paint
Whispering forever faint
its secret verse
deep yet terse
echoing across the ice
While it trickles crisp and clean
a lulling poetry so serene

Caribbean Blue
A most complicated hue
this Caribbean blue
born of tears
nurtured by deep sorrow
For every tomorrow
remembers it past
unhealed wounds that still last
reminders of ancient days
Brutal colonizing ways
which still stain the tropical rain
