Long poems about poverty. 300 words or more, most recently published poems first.
the life and the living
you, drunk on the honey,
i, sobered by the sting;
you drink at the fountain,
i, sodden by the fling
of flotsam and jetsam
you hurdle at my face
to render the programme
your fortune—my disgrace.
the milk curds, you guzzle,
while i must count the horns;
you sicken on rose blooms,
while i must bleed on thorns.

Truth of Life
Wow, I wish that I was as smart as celebrities
Imagine havin' all that brain power
The things they could do in one minute
If I were to do it, it'd take hours
They're on a whole other level
when it comes to bein' a bold intellectual
So intelligent,
while I have trouble keepin' up with them,
they deserve gold medals.
They have such big heads
And I don't mean egotistical
I mean that their brains are so big.
It's probably hard for it to even fit in their skull
And that's why they're always high-strung and freakin' out at the...

This is a story
This is a story, a tale like no other
Of fragmented memories and desperate lovers
This is a story of life in disguise
A fable of falsehoods, true love and lies
Fear swallows pills
swallows whole
swallows minds
While reason is solid and certain and kind
And the whole damn universe bleeds out in impiety
A freaked out, drugged up crush of anxiety
Make it stop
It hurts
This cocktail of ill-content
A medicated, calculated, screwed up experiment
We swallow you
swallow it
swallow them ...

Buju and Johnny Baw
Chapter 1
Father and Son
An elderly man known as Johnny Baw lived with his teenaged son Buju in a run-down house on Wellington Road. They were underprivileged people of the ghetto. Even though Johnny Baw was a strict disciplinarian, Buju was not a well-behaved boy. Moreover, he acted like a clown. Johnny Baw was a retired electrician, but he occasionally did some work. The skilful man had an old, squeaky bicycle that he rode everywhere he went.
Mischievous people in the neighbourhood called Johnny Baw “Lumpis” He did not like that nickname, so he would curse...

Taken
Better to never touch than never be able to let go
Suppose that’s how it works, but how would he know?
He slowly lifts up his head and opens his eyes
To see there’s no life left to live, within the scope of this light
Here he can see that everyone’s gone, everyone left
The shadows give his mind room to play
They bring back the ones he needs to feel home
To make the beating in his chest hurt a little less
Complacency brings the warmth back to his hands
Just as they used to be before the cold came to embrace him
Hands that held so much,...

the Hand that makes the lily bloom
It is not the man who has little, but he who desires more,
that is poor."—Lucius Annaeus Seneca
behold the lily in the swamp,
how pure and bright she blooms!
unfettered by stark stench and muck,
great stature she assumes.
her litheness every eye consumes,
queens emulate her pluck;
her elegance stirs brides and grooms
to light their wedding lamp.
behold the poor man in his dirt, ...

This Old Man
The cry of the wolf knows not he is the inheritance of the waning moon
Interchanging aggression for passion drip of desires darkness shall swoon
Howl unto me my night creatures, feast of the blood
Fangs dipping in ripen flesh in the name of love
London Bridges falling down human immurement sacrificed limbs to keep its crown
What goes up Vikings burned it to the ground
Bodies encased in its moorings hushed without the Queens' sound
Watering graves erected beams
Entombed, no...

The Forgotten Ones
Is the thrill gone away
Do I have nothing more to say
This is the day I have silently prayed never to come
I cannot hear the beat of my own mental drums
My mind is trying to stay afloat
Waves rocking against my paddle boat
I…
Do you see what I mean
My thoughts have never been this far in between
However, I’m somewhat tinkled pink
Fingers gliding as I think
Giving everything, I got bedsides the kitchen sink
Is the thrill really gone away
Is this the day I have nothing else to add or...

Rent Without Lingerie
Rent Without Lingerie
“Honey, did you do the laundry yet?”
“Remember, I told you my computer science finals are next week. College is an old bear and I have to focus. I wish you didn’t have the bear the weight of chores.”
“You are wearing nothing but a negligee. You seem to invite naughtiness.”
“Well, even scholarship gets a spring break. Is my lingerie distracting you from household attentiveness?”
“New Orleans nights can get hot. So you go right ahead and wear that chemise.”
“Don’t you love how we go through the rituals of...

State of Our Union
let’s talk about fear
of hearing excuses
for not trying harder
because all that matters
is that you’re fighting for
yourself and self-respect
you’re better than this
you owe it; to grow up
life isn’t fair
and sometimes
you have to swallow
your selfish pride
after a $2 pay cut
I am still thankful
to have a full time
job with benefits
but damned if I’m not
miffed and expressing it
right in the face
of upper management
damn near making ...

Formalities (table Manners)
Where did people get the foolish idea about table manners?
The same principles of etiquettes do not apply to every country.
Moreover, nobody has the right to dictate groundless formalities.
You do not have to say, “Excuse me” to leave the dining table.
Who says you should not rest your elbow on the dining table?
As a matter of fact, there is no right way or wrong way to set a table.
You can set your dining table as you wish because it belongs to you.
Do not let opinionated people turn you into a fanatic.
It does not...

The Edge Between Our World's
Some say it´s foolish to stand on the edge between our worlds.
Because their not meant to be mixed.
Most would slow-walk not to lose balance,
Because they fear to misstep.
I say it´s wise to be on the edge.
Puts my hands in my pockets,
Looking straight forward.
The further I go, the faster I´ll walk until I'll run.
Either I lose balance and fall. Which side I´ll fall in is random.
Or I'll contain the balance and
Being at the edge of our two worlds.
At the left is the mainland.
Spoiled, overconfident and fake people,
Who's...
