I'd build a time machine to erase you
Haven't seen you in a while
not since our last slip
my last slip
that left us tangled
in more than bedsheets
In the afterglow
you tell me you
wouldn't change a thing
I don't tell you
I would change everything
I don't tell you
how if I could go back
to our beginning
I would walk right by
your drunken philosophical musings
at that stupid party
where a group of us
stood around with rapt attention
all too stoned to realise
nothing you said made any sense
It's amazing...

my last slip
that left us tangled
in more than bedsheets
In the afterglow
you tell me you

Father's memory
On Sundays the father climbs
one side of the roof
trying to find somewhere
where there are no eyes.
Nothing else to do but
undress, lie back
and open his arms wide.
His feet are crossed and made into an X.
A target for the sun to focus
all the energies on him.
The seat of the soul, the damp hair,
breathing, it's the father who calls
all the light he can bring to himself,
in his heroic exhaustion,
a warrior.
If we follow him, still as the light,
genuflecting to his side. ...

opening old wounds
I took a trip down memory lane
sucker punched myself
with our past
Every single emotion
I buried
rising like bile
in my throat
how could I have forgotten
what we put ourselves through
in the push and pull
of young desperate love
I still remember
the way your cruelty tastes
and how my desperation
made it easier
to twist the knife
Though I wasn't blameless
in our demise
I still remember
the rhythm of my heartbeat
when you'd message me
out of nowhere ...

Let's go riding
Do you remember your first time?
An out of this world experience
Terror, Joy and fantasy all wrapped into one...Fascinating!
These beasts tower over amusement parks
the curves and loops of these Steel & Wooden coasters
brilliantly daring, dominating your curiosity
Anticipation as the train begins to lift
slowly creeping up the track
people, buildings & trees are shrinking
almost at the top
your heart is pumping really fast.
you can view the entire park
HERE WE GO....DOWN!!!

Mournfully, Mother
I wish I could remember your baby snuggles—
Every coo, every wiggle, every kiss.
Dissociation and my youthful foolishness
Stole away something I didn't think I'd miss.
I forgot to cherish those tiny feet
And the way your hand wrapped around my finger.
I didn't kiss the top of your head enough
While the newborn smell still lingered.
I'll never get those moments back,
And they haunt me in your little brother's eyes.
If I'd been less busy, less afraid, less sad...
Maybe I'd been woman enough to stay by your side.

To My Father: Thank You for Throwing Me Away
Exhale, it's been a long journey for sure,
Through the heartache, I've found a cure.
From the shadows of your absence, I grew,
And now, Dad, I have something to say to you.
Thank you for throwing me away,
For leaving me behind, day by day.
Your absence was a wound, deep and raw,
But in the pain, I found my own law.
I begged for your love until I was fifty,
But all it did was leave me empty.
You saw me as a mistake, an unwanted trace,
But I found strength in your cold embrace.
In your rejection, I found my own light,
Dancing with...

LATE NIGHT STEALTHY RAINFALL'S PASSING HEALING SONG (somewhere around 1989; San Diego, California)
some faint steady
rhythmic sound
gently rouses me from my sleep
here at three a m
compelling me to get up out of bed
with eyes still partially closed
to go to my nearest window
where to my hypnogogic
pleasantly surprised delight
i unexpectedly discovered
then irresistibly chose to linger
to more deeply savor
listening to the steady
primal cleansing hypnotic sound
of a stealthily passing
late night coastal storm s
trance like pouring rainfall
dreamlike...

I often wonder
I often wonder now
if you remember how you looked at me
and what you said so breathlessly
on that October night so long ago
when I began bewitched
to stir and softly pleasure you
and if that memory still has some power
to sing you to desire again.

AS LIFE'S SHELL SPIRALS TIGHTER STILL (1990's; Galveston Island, Texas)
as life s shell spirals
tighter
ever more tightly around me
with each passing day and night
my life itself and i
both seem and feel
to be coiling in a spiral
deeper
ever more deeply
towards some mysterious
unforeseen
perhaps unseeable
unknown end
which lies in silent stealthy wait
both before behind and beyond me
trapped deeply somewhere within
some long held
subconsciously buried ...

I’ve come across today
a photograph
I took in 1984
of long lost Gilda Lee
And there she stares at me
with adoration in her eyes
To my surprise
In seeing this
my breath is stilled
and I’m now made to be
by memory
heart sore.
Despite how in the passing years
since then
I’ve taught myself to put the beast,
desire for her,
to sleep.
I'm now, if only momentarily
a weak-kneed man
so utterly unclosed,
undone.
