Wine-Scented Dreams:
Ballad of a Creole Moon
Louisiana had been returned to France from Spain and my gait had a new liveliness which could only be that of a lover. My fifty-year-old legs carried me down the colonial avenues of the French Quarter to the wharf where the schooner held my mystery woman. Though I’d never set eyes on her, the prospect of this woman fresh from the convent but ready to break her vow of chastity enthralled me.
And so before me, the schooner with sails furled beckoned with the passenger who was to be my wife. Like a Christmas present as yet...

If I Killed Someone For You
I am packing up my things.
And I'm getting ready for things.
I am getting dressed and rinsing off my clothes.
Cleaning the stains off my mind and walls.
Then I head down the hall.
And dance with her at the ball.
So tell me,would you love me more if I did a sacrifice?
If I took your hand and danced with you before your eyes?
He asks me,would you turn me in if you hear I am on the loose?
Because I killed someone,for you to not lose?
Would you still love me and hold my hand?
The same one I used to escape and defend?

some accusations stain
misunderstood...badly translated
it's hard to explain
why can't you just accept it
let yourself be loved
it's complicated
& painfully simple
but I don't know where to start
once upon a time...
{not so very long ago}

I loved like a warrior
ardent & unrelenting
...but in full armor
poured my love into their open hands
giving them everything I am
beautifully...

The Day We Said Goodbye
It was a very cold winter day
Still I couldn’t tell you if it was sunny or gray
Such irrelevance was far in the back of my mind
It would’ve been dark even if the sun did shine
So often we're in the place we least want to see
But there’s nowhere else that we’d rather be
They said you were dying, a sin to keep you alive
Our hearts ripped to pieces deciding what was right
