The arrival
I had been away for thirty years
came, put up a new fence, and painted the house
Bright spring green, the house looked posh
compared with pale white housing
which had been the only legal color when
the ultra-democratic ruled
I had been spotted, and relatives came to visit
a younger generation that looked like clones
of the people I once knew but with new
bodies and young faces
clean streets, smokers hid in basements like
ostracized uncles no one spoke about
the children of this new generation played ...

Dad
It's not 2 am it's 6 52 , yet
I feel 2 am sad, deep , Neverending heavy .it's not winter ,yet a winters sadness has taken hold . (( you're tough you'll get through this )) I shouldn't have to dad. I still need my dad . You're leaving in Two months, am I supposed to just smile and lie , and say IM SO HAPPY FOR YOU 🙄. Fuck that . If I'm caught crying I can't even say why do you know how fucked up that is . Acid tears litter my face , as I cry hard enough my jaw shakes side to side . It's not 2 am it's 7 22 yet I am 2 am sad .why am I not enough for you to stay. Do you...

Shovelling Snow.
You will never truly understand her. She is a somebody but to her she has been six feet under it’s almost living in reverse .It all began this feeling when she was five and she remembers the first time she saw another human being physically hurt by another. Namely her mother and the thing is this sort of living spreads like a virus and it infiltrates and annihilates all the wonder and destroys joy until you don’t think you can take much more but you do.
As life is a gift she isn’t a total degenerate and you have to unwrap it and take it in your own hands and find an alternative...

Love Will Never Die
On the night my mom passed I had a dream. In my dream was this beautiful angel with large pink wings. The angel smiled and said to me, " dry your eyes child, your mom is tired and ready to go home." NO , I screamed, this is her home!
The angel replied - follow me, there's something I want you to see.
She pointed to the left and there stood my mom in a field of wildflowers. She looked so beautiful with long dark auburn hair and not a wrinkle did I see. My mom was smiling and talking with my grandma and grandpa, aunts and uncles and my brother Joe too.

Maybe you had to die for me to live
Sometimes I worry
that I don’t really miss you as I should.
My daily life was never good
at making space and time for you
(perhaps an unintended legacy
of the independence you encouraged?)
Now that you’re gone from this space and time
the guilt of that failure
has mostly gone with you.
No “when will I see you next?”
or long conversations
at inconvenient times
(oh, how selfish that sounds!)
And though I say I feel grief
what’s often stronger is relief
that I don’t need to filter ...

Sunk Deep in Baton Rouge
Sunk Deep in Baton Rouge
“Hello Pops. Sorry to intrude on my wonderfully studious young man in the middle of deep tort contemplations, but I have a little problem. Our house has flooded. So here I am with no adult assistance with our three-year-old son and the water, water is everywhere to borrow a phrase from Coleridge’s ‘Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner.’ Could you get in that wonderful jalopy your Mom bought for us and take us to dry ground?”
“The car is flooded as well I am afraid. I am at the chapel on campus. Wait just a short while and I am sure the car will revive...

Sugar Festival Night
Sugar Festival Night
“Bob, why do you sit there reading news magazines all afternoon? Wouldn’t chatting with your beautiful wife be more interesting? You did marry me after all. And we are in Turkey. We speak the language. Let’s go out and mingle with the crowd.”
“Pat, I know being home while I am working at the base must get lonely. But I will make it up to you. Tonight we are going to the Sugar Festival.”
“I’ve heard about it from the general’s wife while gardening and being patient for your return as a proper wife should.”

this is why...
the only time I ever came to blows was in 6th grade
the popular girl used to bully me...daily
I never said a word
just silently took it
until one day she mocked my father
and I nearly ripped the hair off her pretty blonde head
got sent to the principal's office for my trouble
...completely unrepentant
he tried to tell me "we don't beat people up"
I said "maybe not
but you don't stop other crap from happening either
never stopped her from bullying me"
when asked why I never spoke up...I shrugged
and he asked...

Spoken Thoughts Through The Eyes Of A Princess
Father, will you tell me all the stories that originated out the depths of the sea
A land beforehand that defines our presence here on earth
A place in history that was preserved for you and for the generation divine calling of me
Will there be tales where the dragon slays the innocent with fire, the boogie man in black robes sitting on judgment seats
Taking breaths of Hebrew liberations to be placed in a cage to no longer pilgrimage free
I see Looming castles and exotic animals running in the wild
Fields of greenery as I walk through...

How Do I Get It Out Of My Head?
There is one image I will never get out of my head
As much as I wish I could wash it from my memory forever
My father laying semi conscious in a hospital bed
Fighting the sedation when he hears us speaking in the hall nearby
An incision his collar to his waist
A tube down his throat,
A look of utter terror on his face
The nurse has us move away from the room
Trying to avoid startling him
My father needs his rest
Still as he can possibly be
My father kept trying to wake up
So they put him under
The phrase "medically...

Inheritance (Daydreamer)
I inherited the best part of my father;
The heart of a dreamer
Those who do not dream
when awake, and aware
can never understand
how we justify a day
of "doing nothing"
They do not see the results
of how our hearts are lifted
Or the difference in our eyes
when we perceive things
a little higher
on our spectrum
They don't see where we went today;
Back in time, or forward
Nor can they comprehend
what we've done
to fix the things in our pasts ...

sometimes tricks are treats
Daddy thoroughly enjoyed Halloween
seeing all the little kids in their costumes
I think it appealed to him
being something other than himself
one year a group of high school seniors showed up at the door
in their ghouls, pirates & zombie gore
politely waiting for small ones to leave
they stepped up & in unison
yelled "trick or treat!"
Daddy eyed them all with amusement
then quietly said "trick"
not at all expecting what happened next
half a dozen teens...from the gymnastics team
