the last stop
in the greed
of becoming young,
my childhood
got captured
in this mirror,
when the evening
of my life arrived,
the deficiency
of vitamins increased,
when there was
no one
to smell my fragrance
and
no one
to listen to my loneliness,
then this childhood
stood by me
it came into my silent life,
by becoming the shape of words...
of becoming young,
my childhood
got captured
in this mirror,
when the evening
of my life arrived,
the deficiency
of vitamins increased,
when there was
no one
to smell my fragrance
and
no one
to listen to my loneliness,
then this childhood
stood by me
it came into my silent life,
by becoming the shape of words...

Ringside
Tracy takes me to Ringside Steakhouse the day before my birthday
We get our entrees at 9:30 PM.
I've flown from Phoenix to Portland
Spent Thanksgiving with my sister
Then taken the train to Tacoma to visit old friends
By the time a bus gets me back to Portland, it's late and I'm not very hungry
I haven't seen Tracy in 14 years
and it's only the second time seeing him in almost twenty
He's not on social media, so I didn't know how to age him in my mind
I never thought of him as fat,
but he's lost something like 50 pounds

think nothing of death
old man sits at his desk
with his cigarettes, his papers, his books
and his scotch, but
no clocks, no timepieces
whatsoever to remind him
of the time he has left
with his cigarettes, his papers, his books
and his scotch, but
no clocks, no timepieces
whatsoever to remind him
of the time he has left

Lonely Alone
quiet contemplation
surrounding deaf to his thoughts
life shunted him a vacuum
nothing seemed right
his heart wasn't ticking
his thoughts were scrambled
he didn't know the time
nor did he care
he lived in his nothingness
once in a while
he reached up for air
painful photographs of her
surrounding deaf to his thoughts
life shunted him a vacuum
nothing seemed right
his heart wasn't ticking
his thoughts were scrambled
he didn't know the time
nor did he care
he lived in his nothingness
once in a while

In the Grey
I'm in the middle
of night and day
one foot in
one foot out
of my grave
I'm in the middle
of thunder and
miles of rain
where all the color
is washed away
You'll find me
in the grey
Colorblind
and that's okay
The clock
has her hands
filled with time
too busy to
pay any mind
My roots have
turned to stone
from my head
I grew a throne
to sit and wait
Weathered and dry
when it's time to die
keeping my cool
where all the color ...
of night and day
one foot in

Bad decisions at 55
It wasn't up to you
it was up to me
turns out there was A LOT of falling
drank too much
smoked too much
really over did it on the folly
still here I am
full of ego and piss
the cracks are deeper
my bruises lie in wait
not as quick to calamity
at least that's what I tell myself
though I can still throw my lot in with the wineos
so go ahead twist that top or pull the cork
let's get on with it
i’ll pay for it tomorrow

Lovely Mistake (in that life can swallow you whole before you see anything coming but next thing is they got you)
this stupid little life
in this
stupid little house
in this
empty soulless city
means (absolutely)
everything
to me

staring down 73
My mother's 72
had a couple of mini strokes
a few years back
needs a lot of medication
just to stay alive
She has newly made plans
for a once in a life time
trip next year
and my first thought
when she told me
was please don't die first

Between A Man And A Dog
Okay, Pooch. What am
I supposed to do with you
now? Take you back to my place?
Funny you should ask,
Old Timer. Must be better
than within foggy weather.
