I have a feeling
of uncertainty
the words she speaks
are my kept memories
but to her
the feeling’s not mutual
my words become faded
as she looks exhausted
when I try harder
I just can’t seem to
get through
If only
I could
I think she just might be
too much, too much
other men dress to impress
but I don't even have a suit
yeah, far too high for me to reach
dreaming of dancing amongst the stars

in my life
and how there is nothing
I can do to make it right
I have never
and will never
feel like I'm enough
because I never have been
for anyone that's

Who tore the petals from your flower,
My winsome neophyte?
Swaying in the wind, she cries,
“I want him to feel my pain,”
Her sorrow born of his cold rejection.
It’s always the beautiful boys
Who make pretty girls weep.
I pull her close, her hands clutching my shirt,
Tears fall, her body grows limp,
We collapse to the floor,
And I cradle her as though she were still a child.
“I loved him, Mom,” she whispers,
As I wipe the tangled strands from her face,
“I know,” I say.
