Cryptic and Yet Obvious
There is arrogance,
and there is ignorance.
I told you
in my dreams
and yet
when we discussed it
in your nightmares
that what we had
vicariously experienced
was a thought
best expressed
imagined
and creatively
related….
And through it all
we really said nothing.
I left a thread of it
colored and wound
around the base
of my being.
I had tried to tell you
exactly what I meant to say.
But, the words
became a lecture,
and you could not hear
a single syllable.
My feelings seemed
to hyperbolize
the reality
of what you see me
going through.
And I feel
that you are blind
to my situation.
I stopped arguing.
I relented.
And then she came
into our lives.
And now
it is obvious
and yet
it goes
without saying.
I've told you this
so many times
that to repeat it again
is shaming me
to think
that I have told you this
and still we don't have
a shred
of understanding.
And yet,
it is obvious
that no matter
how plainly I say it,
it will forever be cryptic
to you
since we are not
on the same page.
I'll say it
as plainly as I can,
and then leave it at that:
Don't shame her again.
I won't stand for it.
This is as obvious
as I can be.
If this is still cryptic,
either
I was not talking to you
or I was talking to you
when I said it
but I am not talking
to you anymore.
I am talking
beyond you.
