Damaging-opal is your
eyes, sweltering like hurricanes
on beaches, in spring.

Forever ago it seems, I
never surely remember,
I was a pest that skittered across
your borders, no likeness to
anyone you'd ever previously
loved, and again, never would.

And also like a slowly degenerate
beetle my ticking, thorned hands
along your bed came without noise.

You did not know I was even
alive.
