Lying Next to You
My body fits perfectly
And I’m surprised at how we don’t consummate this new friendship
But at how well you know what I need
Your kindness shows with every touch
My arms, my back, my face
Every warm sigh as I burrow deeper
While your arms receive me
You caress my long auburn hair and I can hear your smile
And mind wants you to pull my head back
My loins want you to claim the customary yearning
But you’ve just listened to me tell you my story
You know it’s my heart that yearns to be held
That what I need is to be received with compassion
Tonight is about healing not another heartbreak
There will be plenty of time for us to break each other in
Tonight’s not that time
Tonight I’m lying next to you and my body fits perfectly
In the morning I’ll wake up
And you’ll be the first person who has stayed
And I’m surprised at how we don’t consummate this new friendship
But at how well you know what I need
Your kindness shows with every touch
My arms, my back, my face
Every warm sigh as I burrow deeper
While your arms receive me
You caress my long auburn hair and I can hear your smile
And mind wants you to pull my head back
My loins want you to claim the customary yearning
But you’ve just listened to me tell you my story
You know it’s my heart that yearns to be held
That what I need is to be received with compassion
Tonight is about healing not another heartbreak
There will be plenty of time for us to break each other in
Tonight’s not that time
Tonight I’m lying next to you and my body fits perfectly
In the morning I’ll wake up
And you’ll be the first person who has stayed
