Solace In Chicago
I got lost in the depths of Chicago tonight
Swaying to the horn sections sonic assault
Catching the beat with a melody so bright
Hearing this rhythm burning hot as asphalt
Smooth transition into another catchy hook
A walking bass line marches with the drums
Piano is simmering as vocals begin to cook
A blazing guitar solo where each note hums
Sometimes when this world gets out of hand
I find solace in music from some classic band
.. Tonight I found solace in Chicago

Author's Note
Late night musing. Sometimes even I must rest and find solace. I found that in the band, Chicago tonight. The picture is of guitarist, Terry Kath. Who was the heart and soul of the band from 1969 till his death in 1978. He was a phenomenal guitarist and songwriter. Appreciate you.

Amazing piece. Such an underrated guitarist Hendrix was a big fan of his playing. Never was a huge Chicago fan. That's more my father's liking. I will say that their debut is one kick ass record though. After that record, there was too much horns in the music.
Great piece of writing. This deserves an award!

Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Keith. Honored to make your RL. Yeah, Hendrix was a big fan. I'm a huge fan, when Kath was in the band. After he passed away they weren't the same, he was the heart and soul of the music. Not a bad singer either, he always sang at least one song an album. Soulful voice. In the 80's they were just a pop band under, Peter Cetera's influence. Other than the song, "Stay The Night" wasn't a fan of 80's Chicago. The Debut was killer, also loved their second album as well. Loved the horns. lol. Without the horns you get 80's Chicago. lol. Appreciate you.

Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Tams. Honored to make your RL. I'm a binge listener, when it comes to some bands. Chicago, being one of them. So I understand the certain mood vibe. But when In the mood, their music hits the spot. Although, I can listen to, "25 or 6 to 4" anytime. I consider it a musical masterpiece. Especially, Terry Kath's guitar solo. Appreciate you.

I can imagine you find solace in Chicago, there's something so soothing about their music.
It's been a while since I listened to them, they're on now and I'm tripping down memory lane :-)

Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Duende. Honored to make your RL. I love their use of a Horn Section. Brilliant musicians, every single guy in the band was beyond talented. But obviously, Terry Kath, was my favorite. His guitar solo in, "25 or 6 to 4" is one of the best solo's I've ever heard. Enjoy that trip, my friend. Appreciate you.

Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Pete. Love the early stuff, everything with, Terry Kath, was great. After his passing, Peter Cetera took leadership of the band. And we got power ballads. lol. I've heard of bands covering another bands song poorly. But, Cetera, committed an abomination when he came up with the idea to rerecord a masterpiece like, "25 or 6 to 4." No horns, filled with synth pop mumbo jumbo, he killed that songs soul. It's terrible, it's an embarrassment that it was even documented. lol. Appreciate you.

the whole poem has melancholy encasing it as heart tugging notes .. in spite of the do jubilance of music in the descripts & solace from it.. the acceptance of suchness & going towards a mend of music or perhaps a dance or walk or hug ir even sleep .. feels so self- courageous is the soul in such acts of transitions.. to just rest or refuel or whatever be the pause mode. . love how you formed this flow & feel in it . Great one x

I love Chicago. They remind me of my dad and honestly, I think they were ahead of their time sound-wise. It's because of them I love the sound of horns in any song.

You can't listen to Chicago without evoking some kinda emotion. I remember buying their greatest hits album & thinking "this isn't enough". It takes you somewhere. Classy & soul rich. And now I'm there...

This is super cool. Even the pic gives it that classic vintage vibe.
There is something about denim with guitars in black and white.
Awesome write Damien.

(Stupid RL quotas are full)
Yet I can dote on your write at least.
I've been to Chicago once, before it was a crap hole. Perhaps you could go salvage it. Graffiti the buildings with your writes. What a thought!
It needs saving. You're the one.
Your write is awesomely done, btw.

Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Mark. There is never enough RL's in my opinion. lol. Wish we had an unlimited supply. A lot of the bigger cities are in bad shape. I don't know if I could save a city, I'm but a humble poet. lol. Glad you enjoyed the write, my friend. Appreciate you.
