Sometimes when it Rains
Under the shadow of the old brick wall
I stood still with memories to recall
watching within where a girl stood alone
tears in her eyes, confusion marred decisions
she stood there hugging herself tight
sometimes caught by cars passing light
that day the rain fell on the indifferent sidewalk
as whispers of birds flying by in flocks
the rain fell on her battered shoes
as if trying to wash away her darkest blues
she stood trembling, watched the world in fear
wishing to reach out but nobody cared or saw her
derisive laughter plagued her ears
as those her age brushed by her
they didn’t know her or wanted to
she was a shadow at the corner
I stood at the corner tears in my eyes
a woman now with wrinkles on her face
o my darling I told the young memory of me
we made it and our heart still beats
I stood still with memories to recall
watching within where a girl stood alone
tears in her eyes, confusion marred decisions
she stood there hugging herself tight
sometimes caught by cars passing light
that day the rain fell on the indifferent sidewalk
as whispers of birds flying by in flocks
the rain fell on her battered shoes
as if trying to wash away her darkest blues
she stood trembling, watched the world in fear
wishing to reach out but nobody cared or saw her
derisive laughter plagued her ears
as those her age brushed by her
they didn’t know her or wanted to
she was a shadow at the corner
I stood at the corner tears in my eyes
a woman now with wrinkles on her face
o my darling I told the young memory of me
we made it and our heart still beats
