Worms

What-if will tomorrow be what-is, maybe
Yesterday and tomorrow have become lovers today
because they know they can never marry
Tomorrow’s today is no man’s bride
And yesterday’s worm becomes who we thot
today and forever, until we’re  not

The earthworm drinks its love from the soil
and the cankerworm gratifies itself slowly
For this I have learned to be most grateful.
Each of us thinks we decide
but  is that right? No, it is this way
because the worms say it is so

Author's Note
The worm is an image of the human subconscience, the id, the unvarnished self, and that which human kind works a life-time, unwittingly, to educate itself away from. It crawls out of us the minute we become its food, and returns to its mother.
