The Great Pretenders

You go through this world like you're some soft-spoken priest
I hereby present you with a letter: cease and desist

Preachin' from your pulpit like you're morally blessed
But your pockets overflow while the people are stressed

Waving your power like a scepter in hand
As if you own the truth, as if you command

The masses to follow, the blind to believe
But your heart’s full of greed, and your words deceive

Smiling for the cameras, with your perfect grin
While behind closed doors, you play games and spin

Food prices skyrocket, folks can’t afford to eat
While rent climbs so high, they're thrown to the street
Mortgages breaking backs, evictions in stride
Yet you stack your riches, while others subside

You pontificate greatness, a self-made facade
But when we look closer, we see all the fraud

You rule with corruption, you move with deceit
But this is a call-out, and we won't retreat

So keep all your speeches, your power, your clout
‘Cause the people are waking, the truth's coming out

The time is upon you, we’re breaking the chain
Your reign is illusion; now welcome the rain.

Author's Note
I woke up early with these words running through my head. It's early for such a rant, but I had to get it out.
