Poems about Consumerism
#consumerism
Poems about consumerism, the desire for individuals, and society as a whole, to consume products and services in ever-increasing quantities. Poems about consumerism includes poetry about brands and marketing, throw-away culture, packaging waste and the over-consumption and excessive production of goods.

The boastful will not admit it
but they fall from grace all the time
to show the obverse of sublime
with one more apoplectic fit,
most wisely seen from well afar
when they preach to the simping twit
of vanity mixed with YouTube grit
(or something even more bizarre)
to sell the rubes some shoes of gold
so they as well might be the king
of ersatz new instead of old,
or stock shares of some trending thing
which they can rule right away...
with Midas glitter hell to pay.

Are we lost in Tesco?
Are we lost in Tesco?
Or lost inside ourselves?
Are we lost in Tesco?
Or stuck between the shelves?
Are we lost in Tesco?
Or have we gone insane?
Are we lost in Tesco?
Or in the bin again?
Are we lost in Tesco?
Or have we fallen through space and time?
Are we lost in Tesco?
Yes we are and it’s sublime!

the old city
the old
city needs
to be
reincorporated,
the skeleton
needs
new flesh,
opened eyes
out of
curiosity,
her lover's
life
breathed back
into her,
a crowd
of people
wandering
inside
of her,
debating,
discussing
how they
can continue
to keep
her alive
from
now on.

The Empress's New Cloths
I wonder how we'd fare
if we had no more cloths to wear
stripped naked of the images
we see in the mirror
donning hate like a cape
and no more pride to hide behind
plus, jealousy is the new black
Well,
there's one thing that's certain
my soul will still be wearing
a pair mismatched socks
God can take the rest
but I draw the line
at having cold feet in heaven
you can't have my toasty toe sweaters
if we had no more cloths to wear
stripped naked of the images

The piper
I open my eyes
To the morning suns glow
And chase my dreams
Across the raging sea
I follow my muse
Along the whispered winds
I stumble through fields
Glazed with the studded stars
The maddened king knows
And I bet his harem girls do
Frightened mystic cries my name
Cause I've seen his truth
When the beast has been awakened
The ground will rumble
Armies shriek in terror at his roar
Ancient city walls will tumble
Knowing the piper is here

migrant workers
the pain is etched
on each face,
heavy loads being carried
under constant strain,
moving to gather crops
in the blistering sun,
weathered skin
under shaded hats,
bone, muscle and souls
all sore and tired,
moving back and forth
finishing the day's labor,
still overworked and underpaid
so a few rich can have more,
while the poor are nourished
by strong will and determination.

Henceforth Utopia
I beheld some wild ruination scenes;
sunsets streaming sideways in a storm cloud dream
beyond post apocalyptic smithereens
in shade length extreme.
Playgrounds forthwith were of offspring devoid
though the woodland leaves caught daylight's farewell gold
just as they would in a graveyard, destroyed,
as they did of old.
The frenzy of depredation had cooled
and now throve only the bramble thorn and weeds.
Gone was the order the groundskeeper ruled
with their green thumb deeds!
Street concrete by the...

CUB FANS ARE EASY
Funny story. I was in a bar two years ago and some fresh out of college broker/trader type guys got off the train and sat down for a drink and they overheard me reciting a list of embarrassing moments in Cub’s history. Well they didn't like me talking bad about the Cubs and asked why I'm so bitter. I explained to them how the Cubs were such a laughing stock when I was young and how they had spent 20 consecutive years finishing in the bottom half of the league. I then asked them if they knew about the embarrassing experiment when they didn’t have a manager and instead rotated weekly who was...

The official names given to missiles and bombs
makes you wonder at the mind behind them
“Hellfire” missiles, “Brimstone” missiles, “Paveway” bombs
if you really want to pave the way
with hellfire and brimstone
why not go and listen to an old-time preacher
and consider at your leisure
the language of ‘collateral damage’
as a background feature?
for those of you wondering about
austerity measures and cut-backs …
conservatively estimating
“Brimstone” missiles cost about £100,000 each ...

Liberator
Liberator
He will rise where the shadows have meaning.
In his hand he will grip the throat of the empire.
Two will become many as the skies trail
a heavenly tear.
Years will pass as days
and some will trespass
into the wrong direction.
Freedom will know another face.
Laws will crumble underneath
a massive weight.
There will be hope
in the eyes of the just.
What once was can never be again.
Under new rule a time will come
to prosper.
Poets will write of history
and the dawn...

Cupid Does Strike At The Wrong Time... Does He?
As soon as Rick
looked at those
beautiful eyes
of hers, he suddenly
found himself falling in
love with Jessica in
spite of the fact they want the same job.

mr executive
do I have the idea for you
the plan
behind the scenes at least
is to see how much slime the average man or woman would swim through
how many crickets they would eat
to win the least amount of common goods
so that way
at the season finale
you could watch
white hot euphoria
flash over a girl's
bruised and battered face
while her bloodied knuckles grasp
in utterly human triumph
a single, small
raw chicken leg
