No-one ever said it was easy

six hours between visits
and the usual suspects
are pissing their territories
on their pixelated walls

I think of every woman
that has ever hated my spit
and the men who found
weird strength in it

as if my mouth is a trophy
nobody fucking asked for
gathering dust in a cabinet
they show to old mates
knowingly after dark.

I think about words

if they ever mean anything
remembering the last time
I allowed them in

watching my heart
get smashed
against drywall

wondering if anybody
really knows anybody
when a person can be
whoever the fuck they like

clutching underskirt secrets
as tightly as those nude shots
they want no-one
and everyone
to find

and it doesn’t make any sense

why anybody
would mistake hope for a digital kiss
or why a woman watches YouTube clips
on influencer style contouring
for a profile pic only vultures
ever truly see.

Wondered if it was all about happiness
at the end of the day—
five minutes of stolen peace to quench
the world’s burning rage

how words are both blessing and bane
in their own bastardised meaning.
