For Christ’s Sake

How do we define this?
One man’s law is another man’s virtue
What’s the matter of our preference
What’s a matter of our politics
Where does it collide on the tracks?

Ethics and morality versus the philosophy of our own well being
Our comforts are megaphones for lies when indulgence takes the cake
Are we living for ourselves or does our worship embody our values for Christ’s sake?

Lost for the weight of issues what do I address
When it’s easier to point to someone else than gauge the damages of our own mess
Give me an estimate and what will it take
When the motive is broken, you can say all the right words with the wrong intentions
Is it for your own or for Christ’s sake?

Mirrors and reflections
It is myself in the crowd
I am audience to the imperfections that identify with me
When it’s all a question of the filter whereby we perceive everything we see
Trying to find common place with those I’m prone to disagree
Love to disarm the vitriol of our variances of philosophy

Everything comes with its cost set
When we’re exploited against the worth we place on a priceless breath
When we all want the same things but we discern it all through the lens of the divided terms of life and death

Layers to it all
Everything that pertains to the day to day
Trying to make as we find our way
Industries and occupations on a scale of faith and our will to survive
Everything comes full circle, what do you live for and for what are you willing to die

Hostage lives on a scale of fees for diseases, cures, livelihood, and the unseen oppression
Finding ways to maintain our joys in the face of all of the aggression
Taxed to the brim of our sentiments taken for granted and advantage of
Glorified coupons of insurances for overpriced lifelines

Playing keep away with healing and paradise when everything is a carrot on a stick
Our hopes deferred and our savings drained with our retirement plans
Sabotaged by our illnesses in a world that in more ways than one is getting sick
Everything is covered in blood and everyone’s got red hands

I am not at war with my fellow man but I am war with the world
When we get down to the root of our economic and physical decay
Our battle is not of flesh
But a spiritual adversary, beyond the diagnosis, just tell me what to say

When my lips are wielded as a weapon and a love song
Who is my enemy and who do I serenade
Calibrate my heart to my mouth and let integrity return to the utterance of my honor till truth is authenticated in me
As I kill the self to become who I am beyond the fraudulence of my own hypocrisy…
