Walternate Universe NOW-632
 
The deck of the ship was being pounded by freezing waters
And that’s where the portal had opened, right at the bow
I held on to some rope that was nearby as I got sprayed
Until some men came to see what all this was about
 
“What the, why aren’t you preparing the meals?” one said
“I just came out to get a breath of fresh air” I replied
“Get back down below” one of them ordered me
I guess I didn’t realize in this storm I could have died
 
I walked through the corridors of this big research ship
And when I got to the kitchen my alternate appeared
“Psst” I whispered twice until he looked behind his back
“Yo” he said softly, “what the hell are you doing out here?”
 
“IO sent me here” I began “something weird is going on”
“I heard” he said “the magnetic fields are going off the charts
A universe somewhere out there is throwing things off balance
They’re thinking that maybe all the wormholes will break apart…
 
“I got word through my alternate in Gamma” he said
“But most connections have been severed or lost”
“Was there anything he said that could help?” I asked
“He mentioned an amalgam before he got cut off”
 
I spent the rest of the night in my alternates room
Trying to get some sleep but I got really sea sick
“Maybe a nuclear war broke in one of the worlds” he said
“Which one?” I asked, “There are so many you can take your pick”
 
“Check Beta-2’s past history” he said “you might find it there”
The braces display screens showed over three thousand possibilities
“You might need to jump through several in one day” he added
I felt that this quest was beginning to be such a big responsibility
 
“Sorry I couldn’t help” my alternate said while I prepared to jump
“There are a lot of universes out there it’s hard to tell which one”
“I know” I replied “I’m just a rookie, I wasn’t even good at science”
“Good luck bro” he said as I felt the first rays of the morning sun
