Fickle Fated Foodie

Dear GW,

PB and J were my go to. I can’t stomach the thought of them now but your cup o’ soup sounds inviting.
I appreciated this write for its respect of fixed incomes and doing what’s necessary to keep going. H🌷

Ha ha! PB&J is still on my list. It's amazing how quickly my boys consume a jar of peanut butter and boxes of cold cereal. For years, I couldn't even look at a packet of top ramen without getting a little queasy. Of late, living on savings and unemployment has really opened my eyes to what it's like to live on a fixed income.

This one made me think of all the staples we bought when the boys still lived at home.  There’s a particular brand of bean & cheese burrito that I can’t pass in the grocery store without feeling a little green lol.  

It seems criminal that real, fresh food is more expensive than that processed crap. (Don't get me wrong, it's delicious...) It's almost like we're TRYING to keep people unhealthy and push them further down. Let's plant a veggie garden in every yard, on every corner! Free fresh veggies for all!!

I always think what complete bullshit it is that eating like crap costs far less than eating healthy, where fresh fruits, vegetables and lean protein are ridiculously more than a frozen ready to made "anything." You certainly can't even consider buying organic if you're on a fixed income... forget it! - that's a pipe dream! I wonder how many people in the country only have access to a Walmart or similar for their groceries? (which I feel Walmart was previously horrible about keeping people fat and happy but are at least doing better in certain areas now with reasonably priced organic options!) The only place that I've found is often the same if not periodically cheaper on fresh healthy food, is Trader Joe's.. However, they're enormously difficult to shop at because of the limited parking situation. Which I believe is also their 'shtick.' Around the country, I have read the same gripe from many people, in ref to their awful parking. They most scout out new locations with that in mind... jeez.🙄

Loved this theme/idea, it really connected and made me think of all that I used to love eating when I was little, like sugary cereal... Captain Crunch! I haven't eaten that in decades!
