Sailing Paper-Boats Poetry in a Puddle

Sail kindly
Let no ill winds
Desecrate your voyage.

Upon the beatnik bow
Fingers fold passion until they break,
Machete cuts papyrus hearts.

Tributaries of river’ed sonnets
S(wash)buckle naked verse to harbour walls,
Drip-dry verbs crack the ocean pelvic bone.

Streams of reams inked so heavy
They could sink and drown dreams.
Loneliness of long distance swimmer,
Soliloquy storms sit on listless jibs.

Farewell and Adieu to the
Poets of Barcelona and Bedlam,
Secrets buried on Shanghai shores,
Weary and wrecked on Rotterdam rock,
In Antwerp, frigate guns fire remembrance.

Mariachi sirens lure Los Angeles sailors
To the open borders of docked bordello,
Wet pebbles soak Pobladores poem-pockets.
Whores oars penetrate Hotel Mer doors/

Whale song mast sea-shanties
In Sanskrit sadness, maritime
Melancholy haunts the denouement
Of each and every chapter.

Syllables of submarines
Disembowel vowels of U-Boats,
Magellan ghost ships sonneteer
Icebergs and Titanic deck chairs.

Overhead, paper planes
Blitzkrieg silent ballads
Onto ocean floors,
Never to be read nor
Set bed sheets ablaze.

In lustrous lips of some
Long forgotten lake,
The paper boat will sink:
Anchor anachronism to
Other fonts of time…and death.
