Image for the poem reservations about a soul gone missing

reservations about a soul gone missing

my heart turns dark and I weep
for a soulmate not mine to keep
a Native American a fierce warrior of old
would smile in the face of danger
and keep the wolves from devouring
he gave me peace

a father to my children
sadness floods he has gone missing
a con artist look his way for cash
she took his money and left him in the dust

I ache for his soul
he talks to me when it's quiet
avenge me Bren
I hear the drums of his ancestors
deep inside my chest
justice must be done
thump, thump, thump

I keen in silence
nefarious keep, where are you?
what happened your last days
I've held my hurt
I grieve but I have no resolve
it's a cold case
and really the law doesn't care for ones like him

I reach to the rez dogs, do something
find my soul's twin
for now I wander empty wondering what happened to him
