Deed in Lieu
My first memory of the setting sun
Saw it foundering past some Douglas firs
And I grew to know home ground would be none
When their collective extinction occurs.
Thusly age is for watching worlds fade
One "developed" acre at a time...
And then a thousand by the dozer blade
And parasitic mortgage agent slime
Who hoist not a bale in the barn
Of pristine produce from virgin soil,
But from Marne style battle toxic tarn
Their blunt rapacity made to spoil,
So much, that now the only deed I trust
Speaks of ash to ash and dust to dust.
Saw it foundering past some Douglas firs
And I grew to know home ground would be none
When their collective extinction occurs.
Thusly age is for watching worlds fade
One "developed" acre at a time...
And then a thousand by the dozer blade

Their blunt rapacity made to spoil,
So much, that now the only deed I trust
Speaks of ash to ash and dust to dust.
