THOUGHTS ABOUT POETRY

ACCEPTED

I was asked by a publisher
to "criticize" some poems
being considered for publishing.
I rejected the request.
When he asked WHY
my answer was then
and still is--Who am I
to judge that which has
been released from another
person's heart and soul,
regardless of the motive.
I know the literary maze a
poem may be taken through;
the numerous forms it may
be shackled by; I have argued
with the "experts" and accept
their right to be guardians of
the sacred shrine created
by and for the few.
BUT I
choose not to join the club
or use the tools freely on others.
A poem is the result of a
brave spirit daring to
set an inner desire, struggle,
belief, opinion, prejudice,
warning, praise and a
thousand other things
FREE--to walk naked for the
world to see, feel and judge.
