rubicon

Russia Invades Ukraine

“What difference does it make to the dead, the orphans and the homeless,
whether the mad destruction is wrought under the name of totalitarianism
 or in the holy name of liberty or democracy?”― Mahatma Gandhi

your sleight of hand has given reason pause
to contemplate how you have bruised the cause
of justice.  steep the ransom for your pride,
as on the battlefield sharp wits collide.

outnumbered though my troops appear to be,
our courage still outstrips your infamy;
pressed to the wall, we hold our sovereign fort,
nor shall our faith become your trifling sport.

though infantry and cavalry advance,
and sea and sky explode with strange war-dance;
stand back, see the salvation of the Lord,
for we shall conquer you by His Swift Sword.

'tis not in numbers we establish strength,
nor by day hours we calculate time's length;
the sun may yet stand still before your face,
your tyranny reduced to gross disgrace.

the final conflict, rife with blood and stench,
shall not out of our grasp this conquest wrench.
magnificent our closing rubicon;
for us, the victory already won!
