shadows

Trail Blaize No. 05

one delights in the light
while one huddles in the shadows
one takes flight in the night
while one snuggles in the meadows
the shadows and delights are both the same
the meadows and the flights but interim

with the light of his birth
comes the shadow of his journey
long and bright at his mirth
pale and feeble at his tourney
the child begins life’s journey with his light
whose shadow him transports to meet his night

in the noon of his life
shadows equal not his stature
when the moonlight is rife
naught his sequel gaze can capture
the old man, stoop of stature ‘neath the moon,
knows well earth captures fading light too soon

every inch of his way
every man must bear his burden
in life’s pinch and life’s play
each must cross his river jordan
his isms and his schisms must revolve
till umbra and penumbra shall resolve

Author's Note
The attached image is the shadow of a Hiroshima resident seated on the Sumitomo bank steps.. When his body melted, the stain of flesh on the concrete left this shadow.
