Dear Little Me

I wish I could find you again,
That sweet little girl
The one who smiled innocently,
The one untouched by the world.
Back when I was pure,
And didn’t know better,
Way before all the lessons
Before the gloomy weather.
The girl who enjoyed the sun,
And wondered about the moon,
The one who wanted to learn:
All things new.  
Who played outside,
Who knew nature was the closet thing to God,
I wish I could get her back,
I wish things weren’t this hard.
Dear Little Me,
There are things I wish I could tell you,
Things I learned the hard way,
I feel as though I’ve failed you.
Because now you’re gone,
Tucked away somewhere in my mind,
Try as I might,
You’re so hard to find.
Only when it’s quiet,
That’s when you emerge,
Because you don’t trust now,
And need to be sure it’s safe first.
Innocent Me,
I wish I could have kept you from the shame you’d grow into feeling,
I wish I could have talked you through
Every lesson from which you’d need healing…
To really get you to hear me,
Perhaps then we could have done our growing up differently.
However, please don’t fear,
There’s hope for us yet,
We can fix this, Little Me,
Don’t forget…
You’re worth more than you know,
More than the sadness you feel,
And way more than your wounded ego.
You’re just dealing with some big feelings,  
The one’s you’d thought we’d suppressed,
But since we’re grown up now,
You can’t throw a tantrum whenever things go left…
You just have to KNOW…
Little Me, you have to remember,
This too shall pass,
And we’ll see brighter weather.
