Magic and Alchemy
I don稚 know much time I have left in this world
So I rather write right to purge these thoughts
I知 not sure what may await me tomorrow
So I compose poems and prose while fate casts lots
I go late into the night looking for new expressions
Setting them on the fire with fun puns and rhymes
Instead of seeking fame or fortune while I知 alive
I値l leave words behind trying to stand the test of time
I look for grace and beauty in the littlest of things
Musings recorded with secrets encoded in verse
So that once I知 long gone I may be remembered
By loads of odes I once put out into the universe
I pen with my heart on my sleeve searching reprieve
Converting tears into rivers that can deliver light
So the flow will go deep into the subconscious;
Looking for magic and alchemy within me when I write

Bravo! This is such a terrific piece on why you write. The flow is fantastic!
I can relate in that the things inside demand that I write, and I know nothing big will come of it in the way of publication and whatnot. But I too hope to leave a little something of myself on the page when I知 gone.
Good luck in the comp!

Thank you for your comment Eerie.
I believe a piece of us will live for a long time (or forever as they say) when our family and friends and kids read about us. They'll look at our old photos and read the words and know that somehow, we already thought of them.

It's a great title that immediately conjures up being choice with words and using words as ingredients, reinforcing the understanding of how you view your craft. Wnich craft? Poetry! Well done, Wally.

Thank you Johnny.
I think that when we're in the writing zone, something magical happens, our brain chemistry and creativity take on a different persona, even when my (w)alter ego tries to spill somethin' crazy.

There's a nice rhythm and the central idea is clearly expressed, but I'd like to see more solid imagery. After a time elegant language is just that and nothing more. You then need to either say something very profound or create lasting pictures in the mind.

Re. Magic and Alchemy
I think your emotive expressions really hit home and I completely felt the true authenticity that just screamed, Walter, to me.
This was poignant, descriptive, clever and made me smiley, warmly.
Absolutely adored that last line.... Great decision using it as the title. (Magic and Alchemy, I mean)
Good luck in the comp, my friend 🙏🏻

Thank you very much Blue.
It's one of those times when I ponder on what life has been and what I can leave behind. I know it's not the greatest but I certainly try, so that's all I can tell my kids and kid's kids, so they can give it their best. And the writing process sometimes does feel like magic to me.

A brilliant alchemy of words, a fab legacy you will leave behind indeed. This is one of your best, great rhyming word choice wow!. The universe stanza was esp creatively spun my fav but all the rest was superb. Kudos!!

Thank you very much Zaynab.
My affinity for rhyme and wordplay always taunts me, so I try my best to leave something that could be memorable. I do hope that my children and children's children will one day read up and laugh along.
I will certainly take a look at your piece too

I've been reading the final book of poetry by Ursula K Leguin. It has such a delicacy, written in her 9th decade and sent off for editing 2 days before her death, it is a captivating close to her great legacy. I feel like you have spoken from the soul of the artist here, how we wish to make our mark through the alchemy of turning all our pain and loss into something beautiful. Beautifully and powerfully struck.

Daniel, thank you very much for your comment and RL.
Sometimes a morbid thought crosses my mind, the what if's of tomorrow, making sure I have everything in order, just in case. The truth, we never know, but writing each piece like it would be last has been somewhat a mantra as of lately.
I'm certainly putting Le Guin's book on my reading list. I'm always intrigued by those who have reached a certain age and offer their wisdom and sage advice (and for free!).
Hope all is well.
