Time

I'm turnin' thir'y,
and I've binned lace pants,
underwire bras,
contraceptive pills,
the belief we stay forever
in anything,
that we can ever feel
too safe,
that pride is positive,
that dancing is for anyone
but the ocean
within your soul.
I lay in a king-size bed,
revel in surprise
as a highlight to be found
everywhere,
that forgiveness takes work,
that no one deserves goodness
they have to keep striving,
that striving for life
is not some pessimistic statement
but the magic
of humans,
where I often struggle
to find magic in humans.
I'm turnin' thir'y
and I intend to love more
completely, in shades of navy,
in company and alone,
to share the nightmares
as well as best dreams,
to echo feelings
with fearlessness,
to hold those who enrich my world
close to my side
and not think twice
if things are no longer right
for my time.
I am turnin' thir'y
and I won't be reborn,
but I will reground,
full of moonlight,
rife with the energies
of chaotic, veiny stars.
