Trick or Treat
Somewhat a shock, I was caught in a vulnerable space,
wasn’t certain of romance, with her in that place
fell into despair- or her spell, cannot tell, when
she left me asudden it all seemed a mistake.
Quite the surprise three years later, the end of October
and that knock on my door which I almost didn’t bother
with a child gathering candy, a mere white sheet thrown over
his wide-eyed expression, chaperoned by his mother.
Needed not introductions, familiar eyes at my door
staring back like a mirror, faces I’ve known before.
When you smiled it came flooding, the timing... and like that
my bachelor life violently died on my porch.
Years later,
do I tell him to run from mean tricks women play
when they look good by moonlight and escape in the day?
With surprises comes changes, excitements and burns,
less from devils disguised, but from ghosts that return.
