Stating the Obvious
A wish to stay abreast, hard to decline;
most journalists digest their source, then write,
or recapitulate the party line –
to read the news is like a bath in shite.
Dismissal of a million people’s fate
by sounding off with patronising spin,
the mainstream press outlets reiterate,
repeat, as if the words meant anything.
Behind the soundbite suffering proceeds,
as people lose their anger, don’t stay woke,
the gossip monger on the gossip feeds;
each further story, reinforcing spoke.
Footballers wives, the rich’s homes, TV,
this press is part of power’s conspiracy.

I loved Javalini's poem, too! It's really one of the best things about DU, that there's such awesome talent here able to inspire others to create their own beautiful and poignant writes!
There is totally something that makes one's skin go cold, when supposed journalism and MSM news pushes PROPAGANDA out to their loyal watching masses disguised as real news; while completely ignoring the actual facts, themselves. I think keeping a large selection of people in constant combat with each other, gaslighting them, ensures the deep divisions remain. Hence, being able to better (and more easily ) control that riled up and angered selection of folks, especially at the polls....

I appreciate your comment about internet news and propaganda. I spent four hours the other morning chasing up one story on Google News. I finally discovered the origin of the half-truths that Boris Johnson was glibly distributing as fact and got to understand a little about the global rather than the UK picture. Nonetheless it took hours to be able to read between the lines, and to be able to do this you have to know what is happening so you get sucked into the whole thing... like you said, it is probably just a control mechanism to prevent the opinionated from venting their anger on the system that it is part of. Thanks.
