I felt like the opening was very stable...  Foundational.

...  The choice of the word "fathoms", to me, worked as a double entendre, which is brilliant.

...  Nice personification of [b]Time[/b]

...  Lovely, spaced alliteration

...  I like how you seem to limit the movement of the central metaphor:

[Compressed
welcomed irritation
smooths into
soulful perfection]

Into

[flaunts prideful]

This created the effect, for me, of the nature of the arduous yet organic evolution of a pearl and the stable genius of the completed process.


...  I have the feeling of the utter significance of each, seemingly minuscule grain, in our world.  How each has a purpose.  How even the least of things can be come the greatest of things, the most beautiful of things.  

And how self awareness evolves alongside the process, as a curse becomes a gift.
