Away

Without words.
Numb to feelings,
No more of ‘us’
now
If I was empty before
I just wilted
away.
I left my heart
on the back porch
still swinging - back
and forth.
My bags are packed
and my pride
bruised and frayed.

You wanted
my love
when you wanted it -
and I know you wanted it.
But you kept me
waiting for you.
Every. Day.
While you played the town
your arms around-
your arms
around anyone.
And you wanted my love
and for me
to wait.

You’ll need to
know
I’m not that girl
anymore.
I’ve got my shit
together,
I’ve got plans
for future days.
I find comfort in
loneliness
I feel safety
in knowing:
you can throw your love
around
I’m not throwing mine away.

Author's Note
I wrote this as a song several years ago and transformed it as minimally as I could to make it work as a poem. I am wondering if you all think it works as a poem, or any ideas of how to make it flow more smoothly?
